You may recall that during our January DEC meeting I announced the formation of a committee for the purpose of introducing a Monument Protection Bill into the NC legislature.

I am pleased to announce that thanks to the countless hours of dedicated effort by the committee with the assistance of numerous division members a bill has been introduced in the North Carolina Senate. If it gets through committee and passes there, it will then go to the House of Representatives.  I assure you this is a significant accomplishment to even have a bill introduced.

Now comes your part: Please contact your State Senator, especially if he is on the Senate State and Local Government Committee (where the bill is right now)  and ask him to support the bill.  Look at the below message from the committee and take ACTION!  As you contact representatives via phone, email or postal mail remember we want to let  them  know that this bill's objective is to protect ALL monuments honoring our veterans and ALL of the rich history of this state.

Also, if you are a member of a veterans organization (such as the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Vietnam Veterans, etc), especially if you know some of your organization leaders, you should contact them, show them a copy of the bill, and ask them to get behind this legislation. Please make sure that anyone you contact understands that this bill is for all monuments and all our history. Recent examples of some folks attempting to erase our history and artifacts continue to multiply. This bill, which amends current legislation, would protect ALL our monuments, memorials, plaques, and markers.

This is a bit of a stretch, but I guarantee you that after idiots are finished attacking Confederate monuments and WW II survivors are deceased, the WW II monuments will be next to be attacked as your fathers and grandfathers will be portrayed as villains of the day instead of heroes.

We need you to make the contacts ASAP, at least by mid-April, to insure our voice is heard.

When writing an email, you don't have to say a lot, but should mention the Senate bill number (S477) and that you support it.  Experience tells me this is more about numbers than extensive writing.

My sincere thanks to the committee members for their tireless work to bring this bill to the legislature.  Every effort must be made to secure and preserve our Confederate ancestor's heritage.

Regards, Danny Bolick Division Commander NC Division
