Hey Brock, my 1st car was a '66 coupe that I saved up and bought from my Father when I turned 16. My Father bought it from the owner of San Jose Ford. Maybe you might know, was the 289HP available in other than the K code builds? This car was special ordered for the owner's daughter, but it was too much for her so he sold it to my Father. It had the HP top end ( Carter 4B, finned valve covers, aluminum intake and HP badging and solid lifters, no vacuum advance). It was an automatic with a 3.89 limited slip 9", front discs and AC! I took it every Ford Guru in L.A. and nobody could give me a straight answer on the 289HP, pony interior and AC. Was this a one off? I wish I still had that car.

DeleteCertainly it came as 200HP and 225HP as well as the 289CI/271HP Hi-Po.

I wouldn't think so, but the 289 had 271 HP which was very conservative. Mine had the Rally Pac and four speed also, but not the Pony Interior. I could beat the 389/325 HP Goats, but not their 360HP unless it was an automatic. My friend had the 426/425 Hemi in a big vehicle, but being an automatic and him not being the best guy behind the wheel, I could beat him.
It was a fun car for sure. I got popped doing 112mph on Santiago Canyon Rd. between Tustin and Mission Viejo the week after I got my license. 2 year license suspension. :(

DeleteI was going to DC and was close to 120 when I let my foot off the accelerator, which a was a good thing as I had a blow out at 90. :) I remember taking it in to the Tom Frost Ford dealer and complaining that the car didn't steer right. At any rate, the inspection results decided that the body had moved off the frame which was an unusual occurrence, needless to say and I have no idea in the world how that could have happened............:)
