The Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board has taken the first step to remove a Confederate monument from Linn Park.
The board voted to remove the monument during a meeting on Wednesday.
Members also agreed to get the city's legal deparmtent to research any legal impediment in moving the monument.
The monument was placed in Linn Park in 1905 by the Pelham Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
That group does not exist any more, so the board said it will contact five other chapters in Birmingham to see if they will assume the cost and resposibility of moving the monument.
Board member and former Birmingham mayor Benard Kincaid said he wants to be respectful of history, but in light of the church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina he does not believe a Confederate monument should be in a city park in Birmingham.
And I've been waiting for this as well

Yesterday I read that they had no plans not to fly them, but we never know of course. Seeing General Lee "break" his sword in the show ended my ever seeing it again, but not visiting.

ReplyDeleteIt's going to take standing up. Just silently roll over and watch what happens.
There is nothing offensive about this monument. How unfortunate that the city of Birmingham, Alabama has people in seats of authority that are so blinded by racial hatred towards whites that they cannot see past this monument. Parts of the city, like most larger cities in the U.S, look like a third world country. It is really sad that a once thriving and beautiful place now looks like the set for THE WALKING DEAD. There are blocks of boarded up businesses and homes (many have crime scene tape around them) along with abandoned automobiles on some streets and in yards. If one wants to see the results of LBJ's "Great Society", forced integration, affirmative action and other liberal practices. Look no farther than the once great city formerly known as "The Pittsburgh of the South", Oh, forgive me did I use that racially charged word that is responsible for the socially destroying our nation? Pony up Patriots. I fear it will not be long until the libtard-commie-global warming-Sodomite obsessed minions assail the Second Amendment with the same fervor and zeal as they have pursued symbols of history recently.

DeleteAbsolutely. Stan Clardy who performed at Dixie' birthday long ago wrote a novel in which all Confederate monuments were moved to one field and there you could visit. I thought, well that's a good story and now it seems more plausible that they might try.
What's next are they going to insist that the monument at Stone mountain be blasted from the surface? How about Washington and Jefferson from Mt. Rushmore? These assholes need to be forcefully confronted with the question as to if we were to do this; Just how different would we be then from the the Taliban who dynamited the thousand year old statues of the Budda from the cliff face in Afghanistan?

DeleteNone at all.
These cowardly, craven efforts trying to erase history and heritage is nothing more than battles in the war against white folks. Yes, lets empower them some more....

Really.
DeleteI am a Connecticut Yankee. I will not now, nor ever, condone this type of sacrilege to the veterans of any nation, let alone the Southern Men who died fighting for what they believed in, mainly their homes and their families.
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when wretches come to power who possess no Honor and no Shame. They are just ignorant scum.
Thank you and well said.
