Commies deface UNC’s ‘Silent Sam’ Confederate memorial

"Not the way to go," says Rick White, UNC's associate vice chancellor of communications and public affairs, after vandals defaced Silent Sam on McCorkle Place over the July Fourth holiday. The statue, wrapped in white to hide the spray paint damage, on Sunday, July 5, 2015, was erected in 1913 as a monument to the 321 alumni of the university who died in the Civil War and all students who joined the Confederate Army. A UNC spokesman condemned vandalism that defaced the university’s monument to Confederate war soldiers over the July Fourth holiday.

“We understand that the issue of race and place is both emotional and, for many, painful,” Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications and Public Affairs Rick White said in a statement.

“Carolina is working hard to ensure we have a thoughtful, respectful and inclusive dialogue on the issue,” he continued. “The extensive discussions with the Carolina community this past year by the Board of Trustees and university leadership, and the work we will be doing to contextualize the history of our campus is a big part of advancing those conversations.

“We welcome all points of view, but damaging or defacing statues is not the way to go about it,” he said.

    Actually, the “ useful fools “ defaced it. The commies will have them shot after they take over.
