Cornelius police are investigating vandalism to a Confederate memorial near Mount Zion United Methodist Church – the third such incident in the Charlotte area recently.
An officer patrolling near the church off N.C. 115 and Zion Avenue discovered the graffiti at 7 a.m. Monday, Cornelius police spokeswoman Betsy Shores said.
The monument was defaced with wording in black ink, including the phrases, “Dear White People:
This Monument is Offensive” and “Stop Honoring White Supremacy,” the Lake Norman Citizen newspaper reported.
The police and public works departments covered the graffiti with a tarp “due to the offensive content” until whoever maintains and owns the monument can be contacted, Shores said Tuesday in an email.

I can't wait to see on the news, photos of several bodies. Lying around with their little cans of spray paint.
