Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has effectively presented himself as a fresh political face who will bluntly take on entrenched interests. He currently sits atop every major poll.
Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Rand Paul and other Republicans who oppose the 69-year-old billionaire for the 2016 nomination have responded to his rapid rise by questioning his conservative bona fides.
“Mr. Trump doesn’t have a proven conservative record,” Bush said in a town hall in small-town New Hampshire last week, for example. “He was a Democrat longer in the last decade than he was a Republican.”
Trump has explained his party flip-floppery by insisting that he has broad national support.

I like trump and I support him but I would like to hear him speak to his present position on so-called assault weapons with semi-automatic action, extended waiting periods on gun purchases, and gun bans. to me, a flip-flop is okay. I want to know where he stands now.

DeleteMany people live and learn through out their lives and change what they believe. Young Liberals become older Conservatives. Reagan was a Liberal Democrat when he was much younger for example. If the Republican nominees want proof of Trumps commitment to conservatism, then their recent voting record should also be called into question as well - do they have a record of voting for their opponents legislation ?
ReplyDeleteMan, didn't realize Trump was 69 years old, I thought low 60s.
“If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”

Trump doesn't need to explain anything except how he's going to give us back our borders and jobs.

DeleteI don't care about his conservative bona-fides because 20 years of voting for conservatives has got me nothing. Diddly squat. The Republican party has been surrendering on every issue, EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. Voting for Bush was supposed to get us a conservative supreme court Justice, instead we got Roberts who saved Obamacare TWICE. It was supposed to get us a majority in the Senate to block everything on Obama's agenda. It blocked nothing, not even his radical appointments.
ReplyDeleteTrump has correctly identified the single most important issue facing our country: Immigration. He has correctly identified the prescription to correct the problem. And he is the only one doing it. If I can trust him to do that one thing, I don't care how liberal he will be on everything else. At worst, he will be just like everyone else on those issues and at best, we get an immigration fix.
With anyone else (Cruz excepted), we get either amnesty or amnesty-light.
Well said.
