1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T 426/425 HP

The new Dodge Challenger came on the street scene in 1970 with a long list of special options. The beautiful introductory-year example being offered here is a true two-owner Hemi Challenger R/T showing less than 34,000 miles since new. Painted in EF8 Dark Green Metallic with a V9X Black Transverse stripe at the back, this standout vehicle presents an excellent investment opportunity to its next caretaker.

Of all the R/T options available in 1970, one of the most desirable is the Shaker hood, as this was discontinued, and most 1970 Hemi Challengers received the standard non-functional blister-type scalloped hood. This car, documented with three broadcast sheets and featuring original sheet metal, is one of the handful from 1970 with a Shaker hood. Now recognized as just one-of-one built to the specifications on its documentation, it was bought new in 1970 by a soldier stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

    1. Close, but looks better than British Racing Green as on some '63 XKE's.

  3. I knew a punk with one the same color, with a 340, I tried to race him but it never happened, he was a big mouth kid, and my 340 Road Runner (with 4:88 gears) was nasty off the line. I still wish I could have shut him up..... ;)

    1. Oh yes, the 8-3/4 rear is like the Ford 9 inch, pull the axles take off about 15 nuts, pull the whole carrier, could do it in a couple hours......

    2. The pumpkin as we used to call them. Hey here's a good one:

I had '78 Plymouth wagon as a cab with 3 seats since you could carry more Marines, & others,:) making their price per person cheaper. I had changed the pumpkin and put it in the compartment under the third seat to return to the junk yard next time I was near. I was heading north and as I went through the San Onofre checkpoint, I was pulled over by the BP who asked me to open the rear door. As soon as they said that I realized what they thought. You should have seen their faces when I opened the compartment and instead of wetbacks there was the pumpkin! :)

  4. I had the 440, 4-speed version of that in red when I was a senior in high school in '79. It was crazy quick in a strait line but it had extreme over steer. At 8mpg it liked stopping at the fuel pump often. I used to say, "If you leave it running while you are pumping gas you will never fill it up."
