Brock, I don't know what to make of this and I don't know what changed between last Friday and today, but this is distressing and very annoying; This site is now officially blacklisted at the VA. I tried to read your site today and got the message about it being blacklisted and along with the usual lines about the use of government computers. I suspect that some found this site and took great offense as the posting about what happened out west and giving readers the real American history rather than the official propaganda. This is most annoying.
Depending on how savvy the commenter is, there are programs that can be used to either bypass the (assumed) proxy filter, or to confirm that indeed it is being blocked, and then by what and where on his network.
ReplyDeleteWhat he didn't indicate is whether he tried different machines. It may be that HE has been pigeon holed (we call it the Net Weasel list at my office). It would be interesting to know if it's also blocked from other machines and other users' accounts and ideally, if it's just his local site, or multiple different VA offices.
Knowing that will give clues on how far up the chain the IT order was given.
Innocently enough, you may have been BL'd due to some graphic that had something embedded in it you weren't aware of. We've had them sneak through on our own network and this is at a muilti-billion dollar company.

DeleteI don't think it is just you that has been caught in the filters of .gov. A friend of mine who works at military base informed me last week that the filters had been tweaked to block a lot of stuff lately. Most sites blocked were considered "controversial", but especially targeted was anything pro-gun, patriotic, Christian, or deemed "extremist".

Here is some more information for you and SunwolfNC, I had no problems with bringing up FNC at work (the VA) last Friday, but when I tried again this past Monday, that is when I got the notice of this site being blacklisted. FNC is a daily must read for me, along with Moonbattery, WRSA and SHTFPlan. FYI, Fred Reed's site is also blacklisted. I suppose that what ever he wrote hit too close to home and thus pissed off some one. I suppose it is a badge of honor. It means that some one thinks you are a threat to their world view. Sorry about not mentioning this, it slipped my mind. I was also outraged by the weapons grade stupidity of this. Sure I can see and approve of blocking one from going to porno sites on a government computer, but to put FNC in the same league? Brock, just so you know, I read your site every single day. And the ONLY time when I do not is when I don't have internet available. I hope you will take that as a mark of honor.
