An education in journalism is no different than an education in social work. Everything in the liberal arts programs revolve around the concepts of social change. It is admitted in the course description of many journalism programs that the goal is to “inspire the public into political action” while developing awareness on issues concerning social justice. Consider once again, the following description from Berkeley University.
“The goal of this online course is two-fold: 1) to teach students of journalism, public policy and social work how to use journalism and media as an implement of social change; and 2) have those students become effective change agents themselves. This class is not theoretical – students should be prepared to dig in deep and make meaningful contributions to policy change on both the state and federal level.”''

I see Berkley does not use Merriam-Webster's definition of Journalism 2-b: "writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation."
ReplyDeleteThey must be using the one from the 'Commie's Guide to the Universe'. Mighty nice of them to publicly admit what we already knew, though.
"Social Justice".....that's where the ax-wielding attacker of the store clerk gets shot dead by a customer. True Justice provided by a real member of society: that's my kind of Social Justice. :)
