Alabama will commemorate the birthday of Jefferson Davis on Monday, closing state offices in honor of the late Confederate leader. The state is the last to have a legal holiday set aside to solely commemorate the birthday of Davis, who led the Confederate States of American from 1861-1865.
Mississippi still commemorates Davis' birthday but combines its celebration with Memorial Day. Texas includes Davis' birthday as part of its "Confederate Heroes" Day. Other Southern states, including Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida, have unofficial holidays to commemorate Davis' birth.

ReplyDeleteWe's so Raaaacist air.... :)
Joking aside, a logical-minded person would have to ask themselves, why does Alabama, in the year 2016, still separately celebrate Jefferson Davis, and Robt. E. Lee, and Confederate Memorial Day ? An intelligent-minded person would have to think the citizens of Alabama must be mighty in favor of keeping these things going as they are, or else they would have already been changed. A smart-minded person would reason from such that Alabamaians must not care what others, who don't like it, think about it. A sane-minded person would have to reach the conclusion, based on the aforementioned facts, that Alabamaians, where even their guns have guns, should be respected and left alone. But, since liberal/progressive minds and logical/intelligent/smart/sane minds are as far apart as the East is from the West, we here don't hold our breaths waiting for the idiots to finally leave us alone. Here we were taught, just like we teach others, to expect it to happen, just like it's been happening to us since the beginning. That's why we don't care what the idiots think about it, we just go ahead and do it. :)
As for a home-grown idiot, the Flag being removed from the Capital in Montgomery ain't over with yet, either, is it Gov. You just had to send a message to the idiots that you were a fellow-minded idiot, too. Heh! Been all sorts of shenanigans coming to light since you did that, ain't there! :)

DeleteYes, my mother taught be to not care what others thought about me as long as I was doing something honorable.
