Meanwhile, DeVos, a wealthy Michigan GOP fund-raiser and school vouchers supporter, brings decades of education policy experience to her new position — just not the kind education advocates on both sides of the political aisle had hoped for.
“This would not qualify as ‘draining the swamp,’ ” conservative policy leader Frank Cannon, the president of American Principles Project, said. “And it seems to fly in the face of what Trump has stated on education policy up to this point,” he added referring to DeVos’ prior support for Common Core education standards, which Trump continually blasted during his campaign.
*If Trump didn't convince her to go against Common Core, we've got a big, big problem.

Yeah, no shit!
ReplyDeleteI do not follow SC politics but what I have seen I have not been impressed with Nikki Haley. A a friend of mine from the outer Charleston area told said, wouldn't it be ironic if Nikki Haley goes to the UN and deviates from the Trump policy to the Nikki policy and Trump got to say the "you're fired"?
ReplyDeleteShe would be out of a job.
:) He should say the same to DeVos if she doesn't back off supporting Common Core. I can only assume he straightened the two of them out before agreeing to the hires.
DeleteJust received these:
DeleteHaley is a pro-refugee resettlement person. If Trump puts Romney up at State it may be curtains for efforts to reform the program.

For those of you concerned about Common Core, Trump's Education Secretary MIGHT be a good pick. I say might because some have accused her of being a Common Core advocate. She says not. According to the president of the AFT - one of our biggest enemies - Devos is " the most ideological, anti-public ed nominee since the creation of the Dept of Education."
Haley is indeed pro-refugee. I liked the Hawaiian girl better. Maybe he'll make her SoS.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteAppointing Nikki Haley as ambassador to the UN is a good call. Now let's bow out of the UN.
ReplyDeleteHey! Kill two birds with one stone. :)
ReplyDeleteO.K. here's my take. Nikki Haley has to resign as Gov of South Carolina. Then she does not get confirmed by the Senate. Trump just got rid of that problem.
ReplyDeleteAs for DeVoss, she will heve to do as she is told or she will not hold the job for very long.
Y'all have to remember, these people serve at the pleasure of the President.

Precisely as I have thought/mentioned before. Even Pence wasn't on-board with all of Trump's policies, as aren't some of his appointees, but they have no choice. Either comply or be FIRED! :)
