This is a higher education bubble alert if ever there was one. Can someone explain to me in what world it makes sense that Taffye Benson Clayton, UNC-Chapel Hill’s chief diversity officer, earns 38 percent more than North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory?
Mind boggling, isn’t it?
And yet, the News & Observer’s public employee salary database shows McCrory’s annual salary at $142,265 annually, while Clayton’s salary comes in at $195,700.
This chasm was pointed out this week by the good folks at the Pope Center for Higher Education, who went on to point out the costly diversity madness doesn’t stop there. (Keep in mind, this info is in advance of an upcoming vote on a proposed UNC salary range increase …)

Its the benefits and pensions that will bankrupt the academic budget. Wait for the taxpayers to say NO, we aren't paying for the deadbeat state employees. indyjonesouthere
ReplyDeleteI would like to see the factors that determined the salary.
DeleteYou just can't make this stuff up. Planet of the apes
ReplyDeleteexcept they're on the wrong planet.
Question: Why does UNC-Chapel Hill even have a diversity officer? Secondly she is being OVER paid by $195,000. More real world evidence that going to "collage" is a waste of money and time. I blame the Fed.Gov for all this mess. The higher education racket would end abruptly if there were zero Federal student loans available. Universities have zero incentive or reason to keep costs down, when they know that students and their parents will take out even larger loans to pay for it all. The consequences are with the ever increasing student loan debt, other decisions have to be placed on hold, such as getting married, buying a house, buying a car. It is almost to the point that your odds of getting a grand prize pull tab ticket is better than the gamble that your degree will provide the job to make that large student loan debt worth it all.
ReplyDeleteAgree with all.
Deletediversity anything is a minimum wage, part time job cleaning toilets, that is all that degree is worth!

DeleteP.S. No wonder she is a 'smiling black with that kind of compensation...
ReplyDelete:) I'd be smiling!
DeleteThat is a huge salary.
ReplyDeleteWe just need testing centres like Thompson Prometric. If you know the material, take the test. Pass it, and you pass. Many professors could be replaced like that. A machine doesn't need to eat, doesn't sleep, low cost.
Good points.
