Perez’s statement will likely alienate some high-profile anti-abortion
Democrats in the party, including Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and
Sens. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
Edwards said at the Democratic National Convention in 2016 that the
party might be more successful in the Deep South if it allowed more
anti-abortion candidates to rise in the ranks.
This is basically the definition behind what’s called The Big Tent strategy, and it seems to be a pretty basic truism with which many would intuitively agree.
However, newly-elected Democratic Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez appears not to agree with that sentiment.
According to The Huffington Post:
Dems clearly don't want to come to power. This will just send some Latinos and other immigrants our way.
