Country singer Don Williams -- a 2010 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame -- has died after a short illness ... according to his rep.
The Texas native began his music career in the 1960s, but went solo in 1971. He was known for his smooth voice and imposing stature, which scored him the nickname "Gentle Giant."
Williams had 17 number one country hits ... including "You're My Best Friend" and "Tulsa Time."
His biggest hit came in 1981 -- "I Believe in You" reached the top of the country charts and #24 on the Hot 100.

ReplyDelete'Posted Don's "Tulsa Time" to my FB page.... Paul "Big Harry" Thompson and his Band usedta' play it regularly at his Bar "Big Harry's Tavern, 3030 Ft. Bragg Rd. in Fayetteville and I'd be sittin at the Bar or one of the tables with friends!! Always a lot of hoot'z and EEEEHA's!! ....God Speed Don.....

ReplyDeleteI baked oatmeal cherry pecan cookies and pumpkin cookies and made pie crust so I could make tarts (they are called tarts if you bake them in the oven, but if you make them in the Western tradition you fry them in oil and call them fried pies. The pioneers usually didn't have ovens so they fried them) I had a mess of apples I had to do something with before they went bad. I made tarts because I'm almost out of lard that I canned and I wanted to save what I had left. The tarts are basically what J lived on today.��
