That the problems of today’s black Americans are a result of a legacy of slavery, racial discrimination and poverty has achieved an axiomatic status, thought to be self-evident and beyond question. This is what academics and the civil rights establishment have taught. But as with so much of what’s claimed by leftists, there is little evidence to support it.
The No. 1 problem among blacks is the effects stemming from a very weak family structure. Children from fatherless homes are likelier to drop out of high school, die by suicide, have behavioral disorders, join gangs, commit crimes and end up in prison. They are also likelier to live in poverty-stricken households. But is the weak black family a legacy of slavery? In 1960, just 22 percent of black children were raised in single-parent families. Fifty years later, more than 70 percent of black children were raised in single-parent families. Here’s my question: Was the increase in single-parent black families after 1960 a legacy of slavery, or might it be a legacy of the welfare state ushered in by the War on Poverty?

On target! It is near universal that when the father is absent or replaced with a poor substitute, you ARE going to have problems. To prove my point, whites only here: of all of the mass shooting incidents that have occurred where the shooter was a white male, did that same shooter come from a stable intact two parent family with an involved father. I suspect it would be near zero.
ReplyDeleteAs I have mentioned in a previous posting, the majority of the social problems facing the blacks in America today would be gone in a generation if: Black women stopped making babies outside of marriage and as none negotiable condition for sex is that, that same man her husband and employed. No regular paycheck and wedding band = no sex. I came from a generation where the most fear inducing words were; "Just wait till YOUR father gets home!"
To ALL liberals, feminists and progressives, every single thing that is wrong in our country and culture today is 100% YOUR damn fault. You are ALL evil POS.
Can't disagree. :)
DeleteI had a co worker and friend who was black, a retired Navy Vet and a native of North Carolina, and he said the same thing, that the absence of the father was the major problem in the black community. Otherwise, I have long observed what Walter Williams says, leftists in politics, media and others of the intelligensia are condescendingly racist, treating blacks as inferior and holding them to substandard behavior. --Ron W

Delete& only for power.
LBJ sure knew what he was doing, all right.
ReplyDelete:)...................indubitably so.
DeleteBrock, the AltRight posts interesting things on twitter sometimes.
ReplyDeleteSomeone, maybe VDARE, posted a link recently showing how African immigrants tend to benefit from things like affirmative action.
So, even US policies that claim to help blacks don't help blacks. New blacks are brought in, and they're helped instead.
The only change is a black takes a white's job, but the American black doesn't benefit.
I'm afraid many of the blacks who have been here for many moons are content with their monthly welfare check.
