Florida state of emergency declared for Richard Spencer's speech

Citing past clashes and protests, Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday declared a state of emergency in advance of a speech white nationalist Richard Spencer is scheduled to give at the University of Florida.

The state's Republican governor warned in an executive order Monday that a "threat of a potential emergency is imminent" in Alachua County, in north Florida. Spencer is slated to speak at the campus on Thursday and his pending appearance has already sparked protests in the university town.

    Off topic, sort of. Just another example of how uncivilized
    the country has become. Heard on the local news, WLOS, water
    was being dispersed to crowds, (after all this time?) thousands showed up - South Florida - they had to close down
    the dispersion of water due to possible violence.

    Anyone else noticing the irony of those who claim Dr. King to be a hero attacking another man for exercising his God given rights of free speech and assembly? It would be interesting to see the response from black churches if Spencer asked them for help in protecting his rights.
