Janis grew up a few blocks from me, but she was older, and I never met her.
Some locals didn't like her, due to some comments she made about Port Arthur. Those that were her friends, and understood her free spirit nature, always loved her, and described her as talented, kind person.
I saw her in concert sometime around 68-70. Really talented but otherwise a train wreck. In the clip from 1970 she looks like she was high on something. She was an iconic figure from that era.
There's a movie about her, made by her sister. "Little Girl Blue", or something like that. I was never particularly a fan, but the movie made me appreciate her home-grown talent. Poor thing, she died just as it seemed she might find some peace in her life. - Charlie
