It’s finally happened: Professor claims math perpetuates ‘white privilege’

Via Billy

Rochelle Gutiérrez

Galileo Galilei may have declared, “Mathematics is the language with which God wrote the universe,” but Professor Rochelle Gutierrez of the University of Illinois sees sinister white privilege in the language of math. Toni Airaksinen of Campus Reform spotted the latest absurdity to make its way down from the ivory tower to the unwashed masses:
A math education professor at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate “unearned privilege” among whites.

  1. I think she should "invent" her own math. I'm sure it would surpass the minds of those "white guys" who came up with what we have had for generations.
Let's watch this a-hole improve it!

  2. Not sure if you posted it here, but there was an accusation the other day that East Asians are "too white" (presumably because they thrive in white schools).

If you look at most any difficult university, East Asians are dominating.

One argument in favour of affirmative action is so many legacy students are white. I'm unfamiliar with how the legacy system works, but presumably that just means those whites who aren't legacies can't get in to certain schools. (Only legacy white/Jewish and affirmative action need apply.)

I read that when you go into a college library on Friday night, all you see are Asians.

  3. Pls check out the video at the bottom of the attached article.
One of the best adaptions of 'Sound of Silence' I've heard.
I guess because it has lots of feeling:

  5. You know, the first time I watched this video, I remembered
walking into a coffee house here in Asheville. There was
approx. twenty people sitting at tables. As I walked out
to the outside porch I recall thinking that there was
absolutely no talking. I thought this strange but dismissed
it as I was talking to a friend.

    1. Thanks and since it's Asheville, I wouldn't bet on anything! :) I lost part of a front tooth in the Soap Box Derby there when I was young. :) I was visiting my Aunt Sally Moore who taught Minne Pearl piano there many years ago.

  6. At least it wasn't the whole tooth. HA
Seriously, do you know that if a city does use fluoride
in their local water system, they get decreased federal funds.
    Extortion.
