Slaughterbots

  1. This is absolutely terrifying. Currently their only drawback is the battery. As they miniaturize the bots, the life of the battery drops. As of now they do not have the flight time to do what is shown. However, we have the technology, to do everything that is shown. The tiny bots, just do not have the battery power for long term operation. But for a targeted hit, on a specific target. Yes, that is well within current capabilities, today.

Would doubling the size be sufficient?

    2. Increasing size brings in the law of diminishing returns. The simple answer is yes. Increasing size will increase operational time. But increasing size also increase weight and maneuverability. It comes down to kinetic energy and Newton’s three laws of motion. A one-ounce drone can stop and turn on a dime. But increase the size and weight, it exponentially increases the force needed to change direction, and the turn radius.

I’m just guessing here. I would think these tiny drones would have a flight time of less than an hour. This means to be effective, they need to be deployed close to or on top of their targets. On the plus side, again, I am guessing, but they would have a self-destruct. No one would ever let them simply run-out of power and drop to the ground. Once captured, they could be reprogrammed and turned back on the attacker. At some predetermined energy level, they would set-off the charge and self-destruct.

At current battery technology the short operational time prevents them from being effective hunter killers. Now if they develop the AI, and other technology so they can find and recharge themselves. Then we have a whole new game. They could be unleashed and hunt for days or weeks.

    3. Thanks, so you're saying they could be released fairly close to their targets today and kill, correct?

    4. Yes, there is the technology to make these mini killer drones. If I did not care about getting away. No one is safe if I can get within 1/2 mile of them. Program a small swarm, 6-10 drones with facial recognition. Put them under remote control, until I close on target. Then release them to operate under their AI. The facial recognition will find the correct target and eliminate them. There are counter measures, but they are not really in use today. Also, most of the counter measures deal with interrupting a remote-control device. However, with AI doing the final targeting, they will prove worthless.

Design a way for the drones to automatically recharge themselves. Then I can set a GPS coordinate and release them from 100 or 1000 miles away. They will move to that coordinate then switch to the AI targeting. Being small, they can hide and wait, with little fear of discovery. They can set in an out of the way place and watch everyone, using facial recognition. Come to life, and eliminate the target. This is probably not that difficult to do. We all seen the ads for the recharger where you just put your cell phone on them. No need to plug in. I'm guessing something like that can be designed for the drones.

It showed these killing with an explosive charger. Yes, that would work, but I think a poison would be a much better option. My choice would be Sarin Gas. Put a drop of liquid Sarin in a vial. Link it with a tiny explosive to make it into a gas. Get within a foot or so of target and pop the vial. With a small swarm of 6-10, it is a certain kill.

  2. Not to be crude, but the phrase "Oh SHIT!!!" is a correct response. It is a question of only how soon, this Terminator technology will be applied for non-military uses. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton having this weapon? This will also set off a new high tech arms race as others will seek to find a counter measure to defeat these killer bots. Once again humanity has created a technology that it lacks the wisdom to employ without using it for evil. Also if the military gets this, it is again only a matter of time that other fed.gov and LEOs/Security orgs will demand they too, have this tool as well. For your security to keep you safe of course. And we will be told to trust them never, never, never to abuse it. This is not going to end well.
