Out of Africa revised, Seeker - The emerging new model shows there were multiple dispersals of modern humans out of Africa, beginning at least 120,000 years ago. Once the individuals originating from Africa were in Europe and Asia, they encountered the Neanderthals, Denisovans, and possibly other hominid groups that were already in these areas. New research is also revising the history of Neanderthals, whose expansion across multiple regions was much greater than previously believed. Neanderthals were not a 'European' population like people thought until about 10 years ago.

That picture has some special meaning to me. I grew up next to the Mississippi River, in the little town of Princeton, IA. We lived on the banks of the river, dad was a commercial fisherman. Next door there was an elderly gentleman and his wife. They lived in a houseboat, very similar to the one pictured. I can remember playing under the boat as a kid. It was set on blocks by the river’s edge. I though how cool to live on the water. The “riverboats” had no motors or means of propulsion. They would simply pay a passing steamboat for a tow to a new location. A lifestyle that has totally vanished.
