A Wayne County farmer has been accused on several fraud charges after a multi-target crop insurance fraud investigation in the Eastern District of North Carolina, attorney said.
James
S. Wiggins, 43, was charged with various offenses against the United
States, false statements to the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, and
material false statements to the Farm Service Agency and conspiracy to
commit money laundering.
Investigation
showed Wiggins and other people were filing false federal crop
insurances claims and false federal crop disaster relief claims,
structuring transactions to evade reporting requirements and engaging in
various financial transactions to conceal the fraud.
