“This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction, and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago”The majority of millennials would prefer to live in a socialist, communist or fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one, according to a new poll.
In the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s “Annual Report on U.S. Attitudes Toward Socialism,” 58 percent of the up-and-coming generation opted for one of the three systems, compared to 42 percent who said they were in favor of capitalism.

American University brainwashing. It's part of the Stalinist "destroy democracy from within" plan. I recommend they read The Gulag Archipelago by Solzhenitsyn. Or even better apply for permanent residency in Cuba and burn their American passports when the arrive in Havana.
ReplyDeleteReally. "And how we burned in the camps later...."

What is meant by "capitalism", "socialism", "fascism", etc?
ReplyDeleteThese words can mean different things to different people. So, I suspect it means that students are hostile to classical liberalism and also to some of the abuse we see in our current system, due to federal reserve/crony capitalism, etc.
So, I just expect you should take these results with a grain of salt. That said, a friend of mine has long identified as a "democratic socialist". I didn't originally understand the meaning, but I guess I do now. His folks say he's "out there", but he's also a nice guy. So, who knows what he truly believes?
he's also a nice guy.
DeleteThat's scary.
It won't surprise me if he becomes a Trump supporter.

One criticism people have about "capitalism" is it seems vulnerable to mass immigration. And big business managers tend to be left-wing.
That needn't mean "socialism" or "fascism" is the alternative. The "alternatives" are usually fuzzy, but I believe there is value in honest criticism.
Small businesses and rooted communities seem to be right-wing. "Capitalism" tends to want to relocate individuals to wherever is most efficient, dispersing communities. That dispersal also reduces tensions, enables society to get along rather than breaking into tribal conflict. So, it is not entirely "bad".

DeleteNot at all.
That's because they never have. One week in a real communist country and they would change their minds. Communist amusement parks like cuba, funded by daddy's credit card doesn't count.

One week in a real communist country
DeleteCome to think of it, how many do we have? Vietnam wouldn't be included strange as it seems though it definitely was from 1975 to 1986.
Venezuela , Cuba, North Korea, are the only ones that come to mind. Most of Africa could qualify if they were high enough on the social latter to qualify as "political thought" and not just skipping ahead to strong man owns everything.

Thanks.
DeleteCommunists claim they want voters in charge, but things *never* work out that way.
DeleteUS Leftists don't really like North Korea, because they claim it's too nationalist and traditional.
To the extent NK's economy is socialist, it seems to work incredibly poorly, because the pay is said to be so low. The Chinese "capitalist" employers are said to pay immensely better.
I wish we could clean these terms up.
Venezuela now relies on the military to retain power, just like a traditional Greek tyrant.

DeleteAs the north Vietnamese found out from 1975 to 1986.
As I just wrote under the newish video: Low pay tends to suggest self-sufficient farmers/villages.
DeleteThe Southern Agrarians glorified small farmers who couldn't afford even property taxes to pay for government roads (didn't have a use for the roads, since the farmers didn't want a car).
Those small Southern farmers were probably better off, most years, than North Koreans though. Certainly the South enjoyed greater freedoms.

DeleteI have read many times of farmers who didn't see much difference in their lives during the depression. My father's foreman was one who told me first hand. Thank you, Mr. Jenkins.
