I've seen most of them and for the most part can't disagree with their choices and placement, although I would have had "Hamburger Hill" a few spots higher. For some reason that is one of my favorites on the list, but it's also the one that disturbs me the most. The only one that I would have removed is "Born On The 4th Of July". I think that Tom Cruise was miscast. It would have been much better with a different lead. Maybe Gary Sinese. I never did like Cruise's acting in pretty much anything. To me he's just a pretty boy and not really believable. Everything seems forced.................
What makes a good movie? Box office revenue? Critical acclaim? DVD sales? Rotten Tomatoes rank? All of the above? Nobody's top 10 list is the same. Cinematography, special effects, realism, plotline, casting, acting, editing, music score etc. all contribute to the unity of the production. Writer/producer/director's thematic concerns will impact the message delivered, and viewer's experiences will affect his response. There is a lot of territory between Apocalypse Now and Tropic Thunder.
They missed Fire Base Gloria, one of my favorites.
ReplyDelete& a few more.
DeleteRemove Born 4th July and Deer Hunter . Add Fire Bas Gloria near the top. Hamburger should have been #1, Jacket #2, Gloria #3, Platoon #4, Dawn #5
DeleteThanks.
