Senators voted to shelve the bill for the year and ask the state crime commission to study the issue, an outcome that drew cheers from a committee room packed with gun advocates.
Four moderate Democrats joined Republicans in Monday’s committee vote, rejecting legislation that would have prohibited the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms, including popular AR-15 style rifles, and banned the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.

"...ask the state crime commission to study the issue". So you're going to criminalize maybe hundreds of thousands of your own, peacable, law abiding citizens for legally owned weapons AND arbitrary number limits on magazines. Why would that need to be studied? If anything, 99.99% of the people you criminalize are now a deterrent to the real criminals. The "lawmakers" who voted for these gun laws are criminal accomplices!

I wonder if the four moderate demos saw the writing on the wall and had a Come to Jesus moment? I have a strong feeling the Virginia House and Senate and Governor are going to have a hell of a turn over next election.

DeleteI think not. I think it is more that they want the bill worded differently in order to better withstand court challenges. The goal of such bills is to tie it up in court for years, maybe decades. (Meanwhile, depriving lawful citizens of their rights.) But this bill was foundational to that plan. I think the objection of those four was that the vote was too early, that the language hadn't yet been written well enough.
DeleteThis bill will be back. It will be written slightly different but mostly it will feature the same language. That same language as found in similar bills in states where they have outright prohibited or severely restricted 'assault weapons', mag capacities, and certain features.
As long as these oxygen thieves still draw a breath, they will not stop in their malfeasance and abuse of power.

Definitely good news and I hope it ignites a firestorm among ALL gunowners for the 2020 election. That happened in 1994 after the Clinton AWB passed and it had a 10 yr sunset and only banned the future sale and import of certain weapons. There was no possession ban or confiscation. Some hunters don't seem to care because their hunting rifles and shotguns are not included--YET. But wait until there may be some sniper attack mass shooting and then they will say your scoped high powered rifle is a military sniper rifle which has no place in private hands. ALL GUN OWNERS must vote against ALL politicians who want to infringe on in any way on the RKBA!! -- Ron W
