As warmer weather tempted New Yorkers to come out of quarantine, police dispatched 1,000 officers this weekend to enforce social distancing and a ban on congregating in public spaces.Officers set out on foot, bicycles and cars to break up crowds and remind those enjoying the weather of public health restrictions requiring they keep 6 feet away from others.
“I believe with the warm weather people will come outside,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday. “You can’t stay indoors all the time. People will come outside and that’s great, go for a walk. But respect the social distancing and wear a mask.”
The New York City Police Department has made 60 arrests and issued 343 summonses related to social distancing since March 16.

NYC evidently has at least 1000 too many cops. I've always thought any police department that has a band, chaplains, and drill teams is wastefully too big.

DeleteIt seems your are right. I have been watching generals trim the edges around the force structure for decades, to get the right balance to truck mechanics versus aviators, versus infantry. Every single position in the Army has to be scrupulously justified. But not the band or the chaplains. It's like they are made of career Kryptonite or something. No one will go near them.

How can they arrest you for failing to keep 6 feet from another individual? They gonna "virtually cuff" you?
ReplyDeleteCan't they just douse the NYPD trying to enforce "social distancing" with water. The Mayor seemed to be OK with that back before he wanted to impose his rules on the people of NYC. --Ron W
