Washington and Lee University faculty passed a motion to remove Robert E. Lee from the name of the small liberal arts college in Lexington.

The motion — the first time for W&L faculty to make such a recommendation — will be sent to the board of trustees.

W&L President Will Dudley called a special meeting to discuss the motion at the request of the faculty affairs committee. More than 260 faculty members attended the virtual meeting late Monday afternoon and 79% of them voted for the motion.

  1. a small group of vmi alumni have filed suit to remove the jackson statue there as well. what then, exhume the cadets that died at new market from the grounds as well? the town already voted to change the name of the jackson cemetery. awful arrogant for a town that made its wealth from civil war tourism. now full of yankee transplants, they think a failing horse track will pay the bills. gonna be fun watching them starve.

    2. May well happen as they had Dees ($PLC),speak on campus some years ago and the talk was MANDATORY.

  3. Are they going to dig up Lee's body and throw it in the trash? I used to enjoy visiting Lexington, but the town now reeks of liberalism. These liberals need to be whipped and sent on their way back accross the Mason Dixon line.

    1. I hope the Lee family moves all of the Lees and Traveler too and place at SCV Headquarters where they will be respected.
