Outgoing Maricopa County Treasurer Royce Flora announced on Wednesday his resignation from his post on December 31, citing “disgust” with the Board of Supervisors. In his resignation, Flora also announced his intention to assist with the recall of Supervisors Clint Hickman, Bill Gates, Jack Sellers, and Steve Gallardo.
“It has also come to my attention that the incoming Treasurer cannot be legally sworn in until January 11, 2021 and therefore according to the Arizona Constitution, my term would extend until that time,” wrote Flora. “This is unacceptable to me for several reasons. First, the liability bond protecting me expires December 31st, 2020 and I would become personably liable for any loss.Second, the political environment at the County has become so toxic I have no desire to endure further abuse. Finally, I intend to participate in the recall of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors which puts me in direct conflict with County government. For these and other reasons, I resign my office of Maricopa County Treasurer effective on the statutorily prescribed date of midnight, December 31st, 2020.”

ReplyDeleteTime to kill commies.
DeleteLook behind the facade. Very likely that Royce saw opportunity within the corruption and decided to get elected into it. Then when he lost his bid for a 2nd four year term he cries foul loud and wide.
DeleteMark my words, this isn't the last we'll see of Royce Flora.
Scat is sure being impacted upon the impeller... Here is to hoping he is also a key witness to put every single one of the commissioners in prison.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteSo this one openly admits he will defy (act to violate) the AZ state Constitution? Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteOf his three stated reasons; the first may be remedied by the Supes (or county attorney) extending the bond; the 2nd is simply him placing his personal feelings above the duties of the office; 3rd, he has a point. Consult Roberts Rules Of Order, or get a decision from the county attorney.
My point is everything can be remedied. Everything is can be waived. I think at this point I'm undecided if he's chickenshit.

DeleteGood point.
Too, it has been well known for several decades that Maricopa County is corrupt.
ReplyDeleteRoyce was elected to a four year term in November 2016. That term was set to expire on - wait for it - December 31, 2020. Yes, the same exact date of his resignation. How very curious.
Certainly Royce would have known how corrupt the county before he was seated as Treasurer. Yet he took the position. Only now he complains that it is so corrupt that he is forced to resign? And the reasons he gives is partially due to him not being able to work within that corruption? Horse poop!
It sounds like sour grapes because he failed to win a 2nd term. Let's see if that is indeed the case. Did Royce campaign for a 2nd term?
Did Royce campaign for a 2nd term?
DeleteI believe so but can't find anything definitive.
What do ya know! Royce did run for a 2nd term. Riddle me this; if the County has been so corrupt* as to be untenable to the current Treasurer, such to the point he was forced to resign, why would he run for a 2nd term?
ReplyDelete*As I had said, it has been well known the level of corruption in Maricopa County. That level of corruption doesn't happen overnight or even in a few years. The corruption has take an ever deeper hold in the County for decades. Mr. Royce had to certainly be aware of that condition.
Royce, take your boo hoo and stuff it where the sun don't shine. Sleazy slimeball. Conservative in name only. That is the worst kind of enemy, the enemy from the inside.
