I was about a third of the way through Choe Zhao’s (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me) meditative movie Nomadland when I began to fully realize its brilliance. This is a “small” film (budget: $5 million) but carries the heart, production values, and the quality of a drama with a much bigger production budget. It also carries a universal message of respecting the dignity of all humans and the voluntary choices they make, no matter how far outside the mainstream they may be.

Brock, I watched this trailer and have been feeling that pull of being a Nomad even as I never had the word formalized in what I was feeling. I enjoyed going to places and have been stuck in apartments and haven't felt comfortable nor home. This was an eye opener to me, I am getting the movie when it comes out in April.
ReplyDeleteThanks and I could go full time as I have in the past.
DeleteWe can caravan! I too have been full time in the past and thought it was time to put away my wheels, realized I can still travel and see sights and places I haven't seen, just a little slower and if I have to take a break then do that in one place for awhile.

ReplyDeleteNaturally, we acquired a 1997 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to convert to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
In less than a week -- while selling everything -- we completed our conversion and hit the road with a vague goal of 'south'.
Nearly two decades later, we can barely tolerate inside a stand-still house for more than a few minutes.
They seem 'off'.

We watched NOMADLAND.
For most of the time, I was almost weeping.
This was a very touching personal... I would call it a documentary.
NOMADLAND easily earns TheLargeMarge SealOfApproval!
I have and could easily go full time as I love the life style. I have spent three summers (3 months)going coast to coast on three different routes. Where are you now?

Since 2017, we workkamp at a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene Oregon.
DeleteWe share the acreage with about thirty folks in RecreationVehicles and various versions of ExpeditionVehicles.
During 'this phase of this Economic Lock-Down', settling-in makes sense instead of crossing borders.
Now I remember asking you before! :) Thanks.
