Excellent pictures that tell a tragic story. I just missed Frequent Wind. I was deployed to the USS Midway right after all of the rescue operations. Months later, I cut a huge chunk of my heel off on a broken beer bottle at a yard party in the P.I. outside Subic. Long story short, half year later still on light duty at El Toro, I was sent TAD to S1 at Pendleton to help with the refuge paper work for a couple weeks. Quite a learning experience. It was during the Pendleton era and all of my interaction with in country Marines, where my respect for those who were there sky rocketed. My ignorance of the horror of war was quickly wiped away.
Thanks and interesting. Upon evacuation went to ETMCAS and living in San Clemente went to see the refugees every Sunday. Small world. May be of interest below.
