After two brothers who were on probation shot and killed a young female cop and critically wounded her partner at a traffic stop on Saturday night, at least a dozen members of the Chicago Police Department turned their backs on Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot when she addressed reporters near the officers holding a vigil at the hospital where the wounded officer was fighting for his life.
“Lightfoot was given the cold shoulder by CPD rank and file about midnight Saturday at the University of Chicago Medical Center when she approached them on the 7th floor as they grappled with the shootings of two fellow officers,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported, adding, “Just moments before about 30 officers turned their backs on the mayor, Lightfoot tried to talk to the male officer’s father, who himself is a retired Chicago police officer. He clearly wanted nothing to do with Lightfoot, according to two sources who were there. The father excoriated the mayor and blamed her for what had happened.”

A dedicated and beautiful young mother named Officer Ella French died a martyr; it was also somewhat disturbing that more details of this crisis event were reported in the British "Daily Mail" before they surfaced here.
ReplyDeleteDespite the human, and moral tragedy of Officer French's sacrifice, what the current Mayor of Chicago found was another opportunity to speak on behalf of her desire to eliminate the 2nd Amendment of law abiding citizens. For historical context: this Mayor (Lightfoot) is a descendant of an authentically courageous and virtuous Republican Patriot and civil rights firebrand named Ida B Wells - with whom Lightfoot has nothing in common except biological lineage.
Were it not for those brave, dedicated Chicago police who miraculously still are on their assignments here, this area would be completely unliveable - for those who desire the rule of law. The longtime notorious corruption of the city is now augmented by (literally) thousands of local gangs (and not a few multi-country, high powered, "New American" drug cabals). No surprise that Chicago is #1 in resident flight.
Chicago, even when burgeoning, never enjoyed the prestige of a New York or Los Angeles; however, where once thrived a stable, American (however flawed), city, now struggles a dangerous, globalizing locale which - as in the last days before the fall of Saigon, longtime residents (especially taxpayers & retirees), are in a desperate rush to flee.
There is a U.S. Naval prediction that when the New Madrid fault explodes again, sending powerful earthquakes across the Midwest, Chicago will become submerged beneath an expanded Lake Michigan. Given how quickly life here has been changing for the worse, even such an extreme prediction no longer strikes one as improbable.����
