On a recent afternoon Jeon Je Yong sits at the dining table, eating plums.
Jeon is sitting an arm’s length away from Peter Nguyen, a man he rescued on the high seas 22 years ago.
On Nov. 14, 1985, Nguyen was stuck in a dinky fishing boat, bobbing
on the Pacific Ocean with a broken motor, 96 people on board – many of
them young children separated from their parents. They were all fleeing
the Communist regime in Vietnam.
Stuck on a lifeless boat with no restrooms for three days, hope was
scarce. Petrified eyes stared at the large, black storm clouds looming
overhead.
