Rachel Madd(C)ow's disparagement of 'Gunwalker' scandal devoid of honor, facts

With Attorney General Eric Holder potentially facing a vote for contempt of Congress on the House floor as early as next week, administration apologists are pulling out all the stops in their efforts to heap scorn on the very idea that there is a scandal, and on everyone who is trying to get to the bottom of it. So desperate are they in these efforts that not even disgustingly insulting the courageous whistleblowers and families of the victims of the "Project Gunwalker" atrocity is beneath these champions of the "progressive" cause.

MSNBC's (employers of Chris Matthews, naturally) Rachel Maddow has devoted at least two segments this week to snidely expressing her pompous superiority to anyone who is outraged about this abomination. Wednesday night, she and New York Times anti-gun columnist Bob Herbert shared several minutes of chuckles about the investigation, and also devoted some time to impugning the character of blogger Mike Vanderboegh, who first brought attention to the scandal beyond the readership of the Cleanup ATF discussion forum.

That was not enough for Maddow, though. She followed that up with a nearly 20 minute monologue that continued her attacks on Mr. Vanderboegh, but was mostly devoted to expressing derision of Fox News and its viewers. Both segments, in fact, featured a background emblazoned in large all caps: "WHAT YOUR UNCLE WHO WATCHES FOX NEWS ALL DAY IS ALL WORKED UP ABOUT."

The thrust of her argument is that only Fox News viewers, in all their inbred, redneck glory, care about the U.S. government knowingly, deliberately arming brutally violent drug syndicate gunmen. Oddly enough, Maddow never once mentioned that the first mention of the scandal in the mainstream media came not on Fox, but on the CBS Evening News, on February 23. Well, technically, FOX could be said to have beaten CBS by about a day, when it ran an interview with Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt, who tried to talk about the scandal, but Fox host Megyn Kelly shut that discussion down.

Even the fact that CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson has recently received the Edward R. Murrow award for her "Project Gunwalker" coverage was apparently not worth Maddow's mention.

Maddow, by the way, perhaps reserved her most caustic scorn for the idea that the "Gunwalker" debacle was a scheme to justify more restrictive gun regulation. This "conspiracy theory," according to Maddow, could only have sprung from the twisted mind of Mike Vanderboegh, given mass media credence by Fox News, and believed by that station's insipid viewers.

Again, though, she ignores that CBS has presented proof that "gunwalked" guns were used to justify more draconian "gun control." You will never hear that from Maddow, though. She, instead, would have you believe that the Department of "Justice" had no thoughts of more oppressive "gun laws," and was instead merely engaged in "Underpants Gnome" police work.

Maddow will hope viewers don't ask how anyone in law enforcement would have thought this plan would have helped interdict gun trafficking, when not only was the Mexican government left in the dark about the operation, but the BATFE's own personnel in Mexico were, as well. She hopes no one asks how a gun trafficking interdiction plan could have involved ordering BATFE agents to break off surveillance of the suspected traffickers. She certainly hopes no one thinks to ask how a plan that could only "track" the guns by finding them next to dead bodies could possibly be seen as a sensible way to reduce violence.

Success of the government's plan could only be built on hundreds or thousands of dead Mexican bodies (but we're the racists, apparently), which is why leadership was "giddy" when they found a spike in violence directly stemming from the operation.

That's not a Vanderboegh conspiracy theory, Ms. Maddow, and nor is it Fox News propaganda. It's the facts--the very facts your commentary so conspicuously ignores.

Can I Tell This Story and Not be Racist?

I’ve been thinking a lot about race lately. There’s no way to escape the topic since nearly everybody and his brother are accusing conservatives of being racists.

Eric Holder said that Americans are cowards when it comes to race. Maybe we are. No one likes to be called a racist. I’m not a coward. I want to talk about race since many black neighbors and schools are disintegrating. Too many young blacks have succumbed to an ingrown black culture that is not healthy. Cultural integrity can be a good thing, but not when it’s manufactured in the name of a blame-game.

Blacks are going to have to save themselves. The place to start is where the disintegration is most visible.

Consider these statistics from The New Century Foundation’s The Color of Crime (2005), an American report on the differences in crime rates by race. It found the following:

Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.

Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate.

Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent.

Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery.

Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa.

Only 10 percent of youth gang members are white.

Hispanics are 19 times more likely than whites to be members of youth gangs. Blacks are 15 times more likely, and Asians are nine times more likely.

Blacks are seven times more likely to be in prison than whites. Hispanics are three times more likely.

As difficult as blacks had it during the days of segregation, a distinctly black culture developed even in the prevalence of racist attitudes and restrictive laws. We forget, or have never been told, that Washington, D.C., from 1920 to 1960, “was a financial, spiritual, and cultural stronghold. Because Washington was a segregated city, blacks simply created their own metropolis. . . . The first black bank, the Industrial Savings Bank, was started here.” While “the black population of New York’s Harlem inherited many of its buildings from previous white owners, . . . many of the buildings in Shaw were paid for by black businessmen and built by black hands.”[1]

Families were intact, the divorce and unwed mother rates were no different from that of white communities.

Take a look photographs of the 1963 March on Washington led by Martin Luther King, Jr. Notice how everyone is dressed. Most of the men are wearing suits and ties. Many of the women are wearing hats, as are the men. There is a dignity about the crowd.

Blacks are not helped by the continued claim that all problems for them are racial. Some are, but most aren’t. Black on black crime is not the fault of white people. Sky-high out-of-wedlock births are not the fault of whites. High dropout rates among blacks are not the fault of whites. The solution is not to cry “racism” and blame everything on whites or hundreds of years of oppression. Blacks won’t find their problems solved by appealing to the State.

Welfare programs have done a lot to keep black families down by subsidizing family fragmentation and fostering multi-generational dependency. Black problems aren’t solved by naming streets after Martin Luther King, Jr. The same can be said for the King Holiday and Black History Month. These are liberal crumbs to appease the black community, but have any of these actions helped blacks?

Guilt-ridden whites vote for the advocates of government dependency, and anyone who does not will be labeled — you guessed it — a “racist.” It’s a cover for the bill of goods that so-called black leaders sold to their people in the name of “social justice.”

Subsidies have led to the immobility of the poor, the breakup of the black family, and dependency on government programs. My message to blacks: Do the right thing and work to fix it. Cast aside those who have been leading down the real road to recovery. Will the task be hard? Herculean. Are there people who will pitch in to help? Lots! But we won’t do it if the answer is going to be more government, guilt, and charges of ‘racism’ every time you don’t like what’s being offered as real solutions.

Blacks of America unite . . . the only thing you have to lose are your chains of dependency and victimhood.

Wealthy Americans Jumping Obama’s Ship

Wealthy Americans aren’t just leaving tax-heavy states like New York and California, they’re leaving the country.

U.S. citizens are defecting at record levels in order to escape high taxes, the New York Post reported. About 8,000 U.S. citizens are projected to renounce their citizenship in 2012, or about 154 a week — versus 3,805 in 2011, or about 73 per week, according to immigration officials, the Post reported.

They want to avoid tax bills resulting from the proposed 55-percent hike on the wealthy and the anticipated expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts at the end of the year, the Post reported.

“High-net-worth individuals are making decisions that having a US passport just isn’t worth the cost anymore,” Jim Duggan, a lawyer at Duggan Bertsch, which specializes in protecting assets of the wealthy, told the Post.

“They’re able to do what they do from any place in the world, and they’re choosing to do it from places with much lower tax rates," he said. "Some are philosophically disgusted at the course our country is taking in all kinds of ways. They’re making a strong protest of, ‘Enough is enough.’ But largely it’s an economic decision.”

Police Send Threatening Emails When Lawmakers Seek Police Accountability

“We humbly apologize.”

Those are words no appointed state official wants to utter to the chairman of a key legislative committee after just three weeks on the job.

But Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste had little choice in making that apology after a state legislator received a barrage of nasty, even threatening, e-mail messages apparently sent by troopers and their families.

Batiste, who took the top WSP job earlier this month, offered the apology “as an individual and as a group,” to House Transportation Chairman Ed Murray, D-Seattle, and Rep. Toby Nixon, R-Kirkland, at a committee hearing Wednesday evening. “I and the union representative want to apologize for the behavior of a few,” he said.

Those few ripped into Nixon for sponsoring a bill on how traffic accidents involving state troopers are handled. The legislation grew out of the February 2002 death of Brock Loshbaugh as he tried to cross the Bothell-Everett Highway in Mill Creek one evening after dark.

The trooper whose vehicle hit him, Jason Crandall, had been a member of the State Patrol for only about eight months at the time of Loshbaugh’s death but had been involved in two previous accidents and reportedly has been involved in three other accidents since. The state has settled a lawsuit with Loshbaugh’s parents, who are outspoken proponents of the legislation, also known as the “Brock Loshbaugh Act.” The State Patrol cleared Crandall of any wrongdoing in the accident. He is apparently still on the road.

Burglars Break Into Facebook Friends Homes After Finding Out They Were On Vacation

Investigators say a woman and a man broke into the homes of her Facebook friends after finding out they were out of town by their posts on the social networking site.

Deputies say 39-year-old Candace Landreth and 44-year-old Robert Landreth Jr. burglarized several Anderson County homes over the past two months.

Investigators say they turned the tables on the pair, arresting them after they were identified in surveillance photos the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook selling stolen merchandise at a Greenville video game store.

A Reasoned Response To Gabe Suarez

I am a regular reader over at Kerodin’s place and noticed a recent dust-up over Sam’s post about Gabe Suarez’s statements in support of the tactics that result from the militarization of the growing police state in our country. Since I don’t know or care who Gabe Suarez is, it was an interesting read but nothing more. Then Sam posted a link to Gabe’s response and I felt the need to respond to his ignorant stereotyping of people he knows nothing about.

General Observation

First, Mr. Suarez is a former SWAT and Gang Task-force LEO. He has admitted he loved the job because of the adrenaline and testosterone fueled violence he got to perpetrate against other human beings as a part of his job as an agent of the state of California (CBN interview). Second, in his post against those of us who love this country and want to take it back from state-sanctioned thugs of the praetorian class like him, I find it telling that he prides himself on banning dissenting voices from his forum and locking comments on his post. That, in conjunction with his self-admitted love for oppressive violence, tells me all I need to know about his true nature when it comes to the liberty of others. Third, the fact that Mr. Suarez resorts to stereotypes, generalizations, and name calling reveals his inability to use his intellectual faculties to engage in a free discussion with those who don’t bow down and kiss his ring. This is a tactic seen by many with the penchant towards tyranny … build a straw man that is a caricature of your opponent and then destroy it so that your opponent is de-legitimized in the public’s eye. Unfortunately for Mr. Suarez, reality doesn’t measure up to his caricature.

What do you have to do to get jail time in NC?

Here’s another case of the official story misses the actual story.

North Tryon patrol officers responded to an A/D/W (Assault With a Deadly Weapon) call in reference to a subject shot in an apartment complex parking lot. When officers arrived on scene, they located a male subject in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased by Medic at 3:43am.

I know that a dead guy after a shooting sounds like the story, but trust me it isn’t.

Look at his one criminal conviction. He was convicted in November of last year for “Discharging a firearm into an occupied property, causing serious injury,” a Class E felony. According to the structured sentencing guidelines (PDF) he was supposed to get 20-25 months in prison for a first offense of this magnitude. That sentence could be increased to 25-31 months or mitigated to 15-20 depending upon the circumstances of the crime.
