SARCASM ALERT: AKs are NOT Accurate!

Tactical Response Instructor Reid Hendrix used a properly built 7.62x39mm AKM to hit targets out to 350 yards in this short video, shooting standing and braced against a post, sighting through a simple red-dot scope, without magnification.

  1. I happen to know of a cheap piece of crap bulgarian ak that will pick off bottle caps at 50 yards and knock soda cans around out to 150. Only upgrade is tapco trigger. Open sights no optics. It has asl9 been used to bag quite a few whitetail deer out to 250 yards. Kudos to Mr Kalashnikov.

  2. I don't have any reservations with using an AK to defend myself with. I still maintain that the primary reason why so many speak ill of the AK is that Mr Kalashnikov was a Russian and not an American. For me, the ultimate bottom line is, I don't want to get shot by either weapon. Both will make a hole in you. You will bleed. Your day and weekend will be ruined. I have yet to fire a weapon at someone, I hope and pray that it will stay that way.

      May well be. Thanks.

  3. Yeh I have a Saiga 7.62X39 that is every bit as accurate as my "L" prefix Bushmaster out to 300 yards, and since the Maximum effective range of BOTH rounds is 300 meters or LESS ....And the 7.62 hits WAY harder and my Izmash is damn hard to break...Ray

      Something the complainers never mention.

  4. First we must define accuracy....how big is the target being hit CONSISTENTLY and at what distance. THEN one can comment on whether rifle A is more accurate than rifle B.

Hitting a torso target at 350-400 yards with an AK indicates it has adequate accuracy for
a battle weapon. That does NOT mean it i an "accurate" firearm.

It is not uncommon to see people consistently strike a 12" steel plate at ranges in excess of 600 yards with an AR platform rifle. That ALSO indicates a weapon adequate for battle.....it ALSO means that the AR is a more accurate rifle than an AK.

So when the claim is made that an AK is not accurate that claim is correct when compared to an AR pattern rifle (and many other types of long guns also).

Doesn't mean the AK is an unacceptable choice. It just indicates that the AR will allow you to strike the target at a greater range than an AK.....whether or not that is a good thing is a matter of subjective opinion. MOST people would realize that being accurate at a range that precludes your opponents from being able to return fire accurately his a SIGNIFICANT advantage in many situations whereas the heavier round can be an advantage in other situations.

Life is about tradeoffs....guns are no exception.
