One of the fascinating layers of the Ferguson riot story is how this tragedy has exposed what is a rapidly changing attitudinal climate towards law enforcement officers (LEOs). What was for years a stable predicate -- conservatives being reflexively ‘law and order’ and inherently giving cops the benefit of the doubt -- while liberals with the built in ACLU type disdain for cops tending to always assume the worst of those in power – is now a vortex of confusion, cross currents, and contradictions.
It’s not a total flip-flop of the convention, but it’s moving in that direction. After all, we’ve seen Rand Paul and Eric Holder agree on this in the past week. Did I mention confusing and contradictory?

The police state is necessary for a fascist oligarchy.
ReplyDeleteJust for kicks and giggles, let's say a bill was passed demilitarizing the "police".
This ignores the SWAT team and militarization of REGULATORY agencies that attack, harrass and kill citizens while enforcing REGULATIONS (that are not passed thru Congress, they are interpreted by agencies that write them based on laws. Their interpretation of the "law").
recently we've seen SWAT team raids for: eviction notices,
credit card fraud, illegal bear poaching, selling raw milk products without proper "licensing",
drug offenses, student loan non-payment....
The converstaion about demilitarizing police is political theater. Blah, blah, blah, somebody has to DO something.
As far as attitudes go; when there's a civil war, I hope more citizens are awake and aware that the hydra must be killed in the heart, not chopping off heads (to grow two more).

DeleteGood point.
I'm sure holder has a problem with the way the officer acted, what's ironic is that had the LVMP cops that were out at the Bundy Ranch opened up on the Bundy Family and a number of the supporters there, holder would be saying something along the lines of "Appropriate action was taken, the protesters provoked law enforcement and law enforcement took action. If the protesters had simply....blah......blah......blah."
ReplyDeleteExcellent point and 100% correct.
