Slavery and the War

 

To assert the dogma that slavery caused the war of the 1860s sanctifies the North, vilifies the South, glorifies the Blacks, and mythologizes the war. This dogma has been thrown out there as an unchallenged “given” for a hundred and fifty years to put the South on the guilty defensive and keep her there, but it all collapses with one question: How? How, exactly, did slavery cause the war?

Slavery did not cause the war. The North itself admitted it in the New York Times (quoted in the Richmond Whig of April 9, 1861, just before Ft. Sumter):

    The U.S. Supreme Court had ruled slavery legal in the United States in the 1857 Dred Scott (Scott vs Sanford) decision. Part of the reasoning of the majority opinion kept black people lest "they be able to go armed everywhere they went". By the way, many polticians still support that aspect of slavery now! Where are the protests against them?! --Ron W

    "Only commie views matter" which is a system of slavery the "useful idiots" claim they abhor. Well, no wonder Lenin called them idiots. --Ron W

      I heard on the radio last week that Australia is hosting another gun amnesty. Turn in your illegal guns, and it's OK.

      But if caught after amnesty, the punishment is severe. I forget the amounts, but I want to say it was like $200K or 14 yrs in prison: that level of punishment. Yikes.

      So, if someone breaks into your house, rapes your daughter and wife, and you shoot him, then I assume you go to prison along with the sociopath. And likely the sentences would be similar. Scary, scary.

      And note: I'm just assuming the sentences would be similar. Anyway, the radio has shockingly high sentences for being caught with gun.

    Absolutely, right in the commie platform. :) Canada finally gave up on its long gun registration.
