President Donald Trump warned Saturday that Democrats are trying to rig the May 12 special election in California’s 25th congressional district between Republican Mike Garcia and Democrat Christy Smith.

Democrats won the seat in 2018, but newly-elected Rep. Katie Hill resigned over a sex scandal. National politicians are weighing in, knowing that the outcome could hold lessons about the election in November.

Last month, Republicans asked California Gov. Gavin Newsom to suspend the controversial practice of “ballot harvesting,” arguing that it could aid the spread of coronavirus as party operatives collect ballots door-to-door.

Instead, Newsom declared that California would be a “vote by mail” state. The vast majority of Californians already vote by mail, but now ballots will be sent to every voter, not just those who request mail-in ballots.

    I am in Orange County, CA. Already for the primary election this past March all registered voters (at least in this county) received ballots by mail. It was a trial run for the state.
    The 'mail-in-ballot' is new for 2020. (CA legalized ballot harvesting in 2016.)

    Last autumn they had already said they are going to push for a national vote by mail. Read that again. This push has nothing to do with the Cough-1984 virus. They are simply using the lockdown as excuse.

    My question is what is going to be done about it? Whatever is done it must be significant and in place before the November election. And include fines and prison time for violaters.

    Since the elections are up to the states, I doubt the feds can do much about it. However, I doubt the states could succeed in getting a national elections policy in place before November.

    Unless they have already done the ground work. And that would take time...more time than what this virus lockdown has been in effect. Yes, I do not trust anyone on the left.

    IF a national policy was adopted and in place before November, that would be because Trump's administration put it there.
