AR-15 Parts Maker Stirs Controversy by Marketing 'Obama's Blaster'

"Obama's Blaster" is not a gun, but an upper receiver--a part for an AR-15 that has to be coupled with a lower receiver in order to make a functioning firearm.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Ares Armor's owner, Dimitrios Karras, said his company is "pretty creative with [its] names" and "Obama's Blaster" is "obviously a joke." He said it's meant to be "funny," not to suggest action against any political figure.

On the Ares Armor website, "Obama's Blaster" is not marketed as an offensive piece of weaponry but as a commemorative part honoring what Ares Armor describes as President Obama's role as the most "distinguished firearms spokesman and salesman of all time."

  1. Shouldn't it have the homosexual rainbow as it's finish. A Che Heverra Flag Wrap Finish or the Che Obama wrap would be the best seller.

  2. Much as I despise Obama, doing things like this is just stupid. From what I have read the rabid anti-gun folk run about 13% to 17% percent of the population. The Pro-Second Amendment group is just a tad higher 16% to 22% of the people. That leave 60% plus of the population either not caring or not having an opinion. It will only take a very minor shift in that 60% and the police are on the streets confiscating guns. Every time some moron walks into Wal-Mart with an AK-47 because he has the right to open carry, we lose 3 or 4 of the uncommitted people to the anti-gun side. Calling a part of a gun an Obama blaster takes the IQ of just under 50 I would guess. I do not care how they try to spin it Ares Armor are idiots. What do you think would have happened if some democrat gun dealer (and yes they do exist) ran a sale in 2004 for an AR-15 calling it a Bush Blaster Sale or better yet how about a Cheney Chopper Sale? For me doing something this stupid and injurious to the pro-gun movement Ares Armor made my Starbucks list.

  4. Come on guys, are you descendent from Neville Chamberlin? Just appease the anti-gun folk and they'll leave us alone? You know better than that. NO, I don't brandish weapons and certainly wouldn't walk through a mall with an AR-15 just to prove I owned one but do you really think those on the other side will change their gun CONTROL ways if we just leave them alone and don't remind them we have guns?

All I want to know is if anyone can recommend a reliable 80% lower kit to go with that upper? CH

  5. Thanks, I want to build one. Not so much because of the registration loop hole (although that is a factor) I just want the pleasure of doing it myself. CH

  6. Anyone have an opinion on the polymer lowers? Seems to me like they would tend
to break where the barrel screws into the lower, Not much meat there and a lot of stress. CH

    1. I just have AK's so wouldn't know, but I do know that is a good shop as one of my son-in-laws has gone there for an AR build party. They are in Oceanside, not far from San Clemente. I would ask them, but I'm sure there are many other good ones also. Thanks. Come to think of it, why don't you send Oleg Volk an email? I'm sure he would be more than happy to give you his opinion.
