There are guns that are truly great and will stand the test of time. The 1911, the Glock 17, the AR15, the M1 Garand. Legends, and rightfully so because they’ve earned their place in history. Some guns served on the wrong side of wars, but represented innovations like the Walther P38 or the STG44.
But what about guns that everyone says are great, but are actually kind of terrible? Some are propped up by lingering nostalgia, others are popular because of their price point, but for whatever reason, people love them…even if they’re not very good. So get out your stadium hats and start chanting with me: “OVER-RATED! OVER-RATED!” as we look at the 5 Most Overrated Guns of All Time.

I can see where the list makes a lot of sense, specially for the Mosin. Never seen one with what I would call a decent bore. Most, if not all of the Mosin's that saw any action had corrosive ammo shot through them.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few shot on the ranges throughout the years and the most accurate that I have witnessed is 3 to 4 MOA at 100 yards, the worst was 7" at 50 yards.
As for the M14/M1A, my main gripe has always been the price. Like, the cheapest I have ever seen was no less than $1,500. This on top of SA making the M1A receivers from castings instead of the original M14 having forged receivers.
As for the rest of them, I have had no experience with them so I will hold judgement.

ReplyDeleteI can't argue his points on any one of them except maybe the M14. At least on the ones I fired they seemed to be the most accurate battle rifles right off the shelf I have ever seen, even the civilian M1A chinadolls just seemed to hit dead center with ease.
Heavy as hell though.

ReplyDeleteIt's a pain in the ass to tear down, I had to spend another $100 to get it to shoot 2 moa, and it's picky as hell about it's magazines.

DeleteI bought a Nagant carbine a while back knowing its not going to shoot wire at 400+ yards. What it is good for is an OK truck gun. If its gets banged up, oh well. A woods walk gun; if it rains or gets lost, oh well. It makes a decent deer rifle, it'll hit the heart out of a stand under 50yards every time and if its dropped out of the tree, unlike the $1,300 Remington, oh well. All about perspective I suppose. After the XD recall, why would you not go with a Glock or FN? My life and the lives of my own are priceless, spending a little more for reliability is a no-brainer.

I have a pretty, wood M44 with pristine bore and a 21 and 30.
DeleteButtholes and opinions. Most everbody has one. If you take a $89 mosin and $100 worth of ammo you can have a lot of fun. Luger, i agree, kool to look at but picky to shoot. M1A big and heavy but worth its weight as an accurate semi auto with a decent down range punch. AK, grrrr. They are tough. And accurate enough to shoot minute of bad guy. Springfield xd, I dont own one but my cousin does and he can do anything with his xd i can do with my glock. I think the list is inacurate, but thats just my opinion.
