That is why, even though I don't own one, I consider a sail boat to be the ultimate
ReplyDeletebug out vehicle. You can completely remove the rigging from one and it will bob like a cork in the middle of the ocean and in terrible storms until someone finds it or it floats it's way to land. If he had bothered to pack that boat with some emergency rations and some fishing gear he could have thrived out there until he was found.
If the hatches stay secure and the hull doesn't get damaged to the point of leaking it is very hard to sink them. If they do turn over they will right themselves.
Can't believe he went out without a handheld MB radio. There were three Vietnamese who had come over as boat people, survived and then bought a boat here, took off in the morning without plugging the drainage holes and eventually sank. One managed to hold on for 23 hours, but the others gave up after a while, said goodbye and floated away. Once, again no MB.
