The victors of war write its history in order to cast themselves in the most favorable light.
That explains the considerable historical ignorance about our war of 1861 and panic over the Confederate flag. To create better understanding, we have to start a bit before the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.
The 1783 Treaty of Paris ended the war between the colonies and Great Britain. Its first article declared the 13 colonies "to be free, sovereign and independent states." These 13 sovereign nations came together in 1787 as principals and created the federal government as their agent. Principals have always held the right to fire agents. In other words, states held a right to withdraw from the pact -- secede.

If you think any of those pigs removing the flag won't come for your guns, you're beyond lost.
ReplyDelete"Anonymous": Exactly who are you referring to? (To end a sentence with a preposition......:)
DeleteUnsure if you've already posted this...though it's spot on...

I did, but thanks for the reminder. Excellent as usual and I remember when he made the big decision to leave Florida.

ReplyDeleteAnyone who says this doesn't know history. In reality, everyone who survives war writes the history of it. Even bad history that deserves to be forgotten. The US Army is still fighting the legacy of Vietnam with regard to the M-4 carbine because of the "history" of the M-16 being junk and a "toy" and "unreliable". Browse the history shelves in any library. You will find multiple books by civil war generals from the South, German Generals from WW1 and WW2. Italian and French generals from both wars. Books by and about Jefferson Davis. Books by Egyptian generals who lost the 1973 war against Israel. Modern authors have written about historical events from all sides. There is so much written history that you cannot read it all. And very little of it is supporting a single party line, favorable to the winners. Even repressive regimes like the USSR managed to have authors critical of the USSR get books published and in global distribution (Solzhenitsyn).
History is written by everyone who survives. That history is available to everyone with a thirst for knowledge and understanding. only in the public school system will you see anything close to a monolithic view of history, and that isn't from the point of view most favorable to the victors. Today, it is from the point of view most favorable to the communists who control the public school system and universities.
I'm sure he was referring to the schools and the ivy halls.
DeleteI am past ready for secession.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't alone, needless to say.
