The ammunition shortage is a real thing. Here’s why it happened.

America's shooters have had around five years of trouble finding enough bullets for their guns. In the years after President Obama's 2008 election, then again after the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, with barely a lull in between, big-spending gun aficionados left manufacturers struggling to keep shelves full. Now, the shortage seems to be winding down.

Demand has remained high since 2008, in part because some gun owners, frightened that Obama would tighten gun control laws, went into panic mode. But that's only one side of it. The problem is that supply never seemed to quite meet that demand. And that's in part because even though they haven't said so, skittish manufacturers don't believe the panic will last long enough to make it worth the investment in costly new factories.

  1. Another issue not pointed out in this article is the profiteers. I love America and i believe in capitalism but I despise greed. When firearm auction sites have sellers asking $60 to $70 for a brick of 22lr ammo that they purchased from the mart stores for $23 it is anything but capitalism. Its price gouging. I see the same situation at gunshows. And these profiteers know exactly when the stores new suplies come in and they go in with their pals to buy out the suply. Keeping the shortage going for the average guy, thus insuring they will continue to sell the ammo at their overinflated prices. If this were food or gas or even hairspray, there would be an investigation for gouging. Dont pay these high prices. God Bless America

    1. If the government doesn't interfere, the free market will sort it out.

  2. Well. when you have guys with 700000 rounds of 5.56 in the basement, who buy every round they can find at any price, telling you about the machines they just set up to manufacture FMJ ammo ,'cause they fear "running out"(This same guy bought 6000 Lb. of lead because "Obama has closed the smelter". He wants another 10000 lb., for which he'll pay damn near anything) I don't take many like him in a county to make an ammo shortage, and way too many shooters with more money than common sense have been in a blind screaming panic since Obama took office.---Ray

  4. Absolutely. On one of the survivalist sites a couple of years ago at thanksgiving, the blogger posted a picture of his Thanksgiving Center Piece for his table. It was a bowl filled with mixed dry beans with some eggs and rifle bullets scattered on top. I suppose he would like credit and maybe a few more readers so Brock with your permission it was TheSurvivalistblog.net owned by M.D. Creekmore if that link happens to be wrong.
