A civilized society’s first line of defense is not the law, police
and courts but customs, traditions, rules of etiquette and moral values.
These behavioral norms — mostly transmitted by example, word of mouth
and religious teachings — represent a body of wisdom distilled over the
ages through experience and trial and error. They include important
thou-shalt-nots, such as thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not steal and
thou shalt not cheat. They also include all those courtesies that have
traditionally been associated with ladylike and gentlemanly conduct.
The failure to fully transmit these values and traditions to
subsequent generations represents one of the failings of what journalist
Tom Brokaw called “The Greatest Generation.” People in this so-called
great generation, who lived during the trauma of the Great Depression
and fought World War II, not only failed to transmit the moral values of
their parents but also are responsible for government programs that
will deliver economic chaos.
He's right.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately. Doesn't look promising.
DeleteI don't understand this moral depravity either. Morals and ethics were passed on
ReplyDeleteto us siblings from my parents and on it goes. I fear there are darker forces
involved in all of this to totally undermine polite society. Negative behavior
is being encouraged.

Absolutely and thanks.
Deletethe integrity of any culture comes from common beliefs and behaviors. while we are all somewhat different and unique, we can still belong in a common culture. once you adopt behaviors and beliefs substantially different from those commonly held by your culture, you are deviating from those cultural values. it doesn't make you diverse. diverse would be following different paths to arrive at the same point of common values. the argument of diversity is a lame attempt to make deviancy acceptable within the culture and thereby redefine everyone else's values to encompass the deviant values. this is not the same as adding a few blueberries to your pancake batter to make it better, it is dropping a few bad apples into the barrel to accelerate the rot of them all. this is the same thing that has destroyed the faith-based boy scouts. you don't get to the point of 100 years of traditions if you abandon those values and redefine them every few years on somebody's whim or you'll undermine the whole thing and prove you do not have any values. and why would anyone want to celebrate that?

DeleteExcellent and deserves a post. Thanks.
