Former Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration and current University of California Berkeley professor Robert Reich wants Americans to be vigilant this July 4 against “exclusive patriotism” that “asserts a unique and superior ‘Americanism.'”

“We hear a lot about patriotism, especially around the Fourth of July. But in 2016, we’re hearing about two very different types of patriotism. One is an inclusive patriotism that binds us together. The other is an exclusive patriotism that keeps others out,” Reich writes

The Arkansas senator on the list of potential running mates for Donald J. Trump, the GOP’s presumptive nominee, told activists Saturday at the Western Conservative Summit that Hillary Clinton’s reckless and criminal behavior disqualifies her to become America’s commander-in-chief.

A combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, Sen. Thomas Cotton (R.-Ark.) said he was glad make it on time for his speech after a series of travel delays.

“We were on the tarmac, I thought Bill Clinton might be boarding my plane to talk to me,” said the former Army Airborne Ranger officer.

The dangerous allure of spearfishing

If there’s a more difficult way to catch open-ocean, fast-moving fish than with a speargun, nobody knows what it is. Known as blue-water hunting, it takes place miles offshore, where the ocean is deep blue and the fish are few and far between. It is fishing’s equivalent of African big game hunting, only with sharks and no powerful rifle. On the plus side, if you do manage to kill something, you get to eat it, rather than stuff it and hang it in the den. In short, hunting big, powerful game fish like tuna, yellowtail and even marlin with nothing but a speargun is the ultimate way to put yourself at a major disadvantage to the fish.

“Spearfishing is tough because as humans we’re totally out of our element in the ocean. If you throw a human in the water and tell them to get a fish, it’s not going to be very productive,” says Ryan Moore, a local “spearo” sponsored by Riffe International, a premier spearfishing company based in *San Clemente. “So you have fins to move around, a wetsuit to stay warm, a mask to see, weights to help dive, a snorkel to breathe. And on and on. There are so many pieces of gear that have to come together effectively to be a hunter in the water.”

***************************

My boat, the Thuy Kieu, flying the VNCH flag, in Dana Point Harbor, California 1977/78 with my two oldest daughters, Emily and Virginia.

I was diving with a buddy in South Laguna one day among the kelp and I kept thinking my fins were getting caught in it. My buddy motioned me to go up, but I didn't want to as I was chasing fish. At any rate, he looked frantic again, I went up and he said a Moray was biting a fin.:) They are great to eat, but better shoot them through the head or they may go for you. At Dana Point at low tide you could take a short bamboo pole with heavy wire leader, shrimp on the hook and poke under large rocks for them. They live a long time out of water in a wet burlap sack. but die immediately in fresh water. Almost lost one in my kitchen sink when it started going down the drain, but it was the garbage disposal side fortunately. :)
                                                                 *******************

Abalone was the most expensive meat in the world back then. My favorite was breaded. "Off The Steps" refers to an area between *San Clemente and Capistrano Beach off the coast highway. There are steps coming down from the palisades and if you go directly out from there, they are in 18/20 feet of water. They were so big at least back then, because it was so dirty that you could only dive it a few times a year. I got the then California record for Green Abalone here. North of that a few miles is Dana Point where I had my boat. If you go out to the red buoy, you can find big scallops in 80/90 feet of water. We would bring them up and eat them after squeezing lemon or lime on them and hot sauce. Excellent. Lobsters there and big Sheephead also. Almost drowned once as I had a bag full of scallops, then chased a fish and ran out of air, I would kick some, then exhale and finally I thought this would be the last shot and although I didn't make it, I saw the surface, best breath of air I ever breathed. Of, course it would have been easier if I had dropped the bag............:)

(2011) Ruins in Georgia mountains show evidence of Maya connection

Via Ryan

This 3D virtual reality image was made from the Johannes Loubser site plan. There may be many other hidden structures in the ancient site.
Archaeological zone 9UN367 at Track Rock Gap, near Georgia’s highest mountain, Brasstown Bald, is a half mile (800 m) square and rises 700 feet (213 m) in elevation up a steep mountainside. Visible are at least 154 stone masonry walls for agricultural terraces, plus evidence of a sophisticated irrigation system and ruins of several other stone structures. Much more may be hidden underground. It is possibly the site of the fabled city of Yupaha, which Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto failed to find in 1540, and certainly one of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent times.

Note: Due to the extreme popularity - and controversy - of this article, the Architecture & Design Examiner has created a sequel, which describes in detail the research methodology used by these Native American scholars, and invites readers to submit scientific evidence that either proves or disproves the interpretations of the Track Rock terrace complex by Native American scholars. It is entitled, Mayas in the USA controversy . . . you be the juror. The linkage to this article is at the bottom of the page.

Around the year 800 AD the flourishing Maya civilization of Central America suddenly began a rapid collapse. A series of catastrophic volcanic eruptions were followed by two long periods of extreme drought conditions and unending wars between city states.

Sonnie Johnson on Blacks for Donald Trump: ‘We Want Greatness; We Do Not Want Free Sh*t’

Via Billy

Facebook/Sonskystar

Podcaster and blogger Sonnie Johnson was having a pretty good time with this year’s BET Awards until Jesse Williams took the stage, as she told SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon on Friday’s Breitbart News Daily.

“He gives this speech, a Black Lives Matter speech, and I wrote a responding article on Breitbart.com, entitled ‘OK, Do You Want to Talk About Freedom Now?’” Johnson said. (The current title of the article was expanded to include both Johnson and Williams’ names; it may be read here.)

As Johnson pointed out, Jesse Williams has “a white mother and a black father – and that is what the Left has spent their time talking about, while the Right is talking about how divisive he is. And lost in this process are black people.

She said she wrote her article to “reach those people, telling them the honest truth about why we cannot get problems solved in the black community.”

“No one touched my article, Bannon,” Johnson said proudly. Elaborating, she said:
I did not get a single negative comment from one black progressive. No one called me an “Uncle Tom.” No one called me a “coon.” No one plastered my name all across their headlines, saying how bad I was. But what did occur was Stacey Dash saying that he is a Hollywood progressive slave on a plantation.

British MEP Daniel Hannan Spent Nine Minutes Smacking Down CNN Journalist Christiane Amanpour

Via Billy

Daniel Hannan, a conservative Member of the European Parliament representing South East England and one of the most vocal advocates in favor of #Brexit, had a “fiery exchange” with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, in which Hannan repeatedly rejected Amanpour’s attempts to smear Leave supporters as racist and pushed back against her accusations that he had made misrepresentations.

The interview, which aired on Tuesday, featured Amanpour questioning Hannan for details about how Britain’s exit from the European Union would be accomplished.

.........the video, with a few seconds shy of nine minutes of Hannan smacking down rudeness and ridiculousness from Amanpour over and over and over again.

Amanpour kicked off the interview demanding a “plan” from Hannan, complaining that she had not heard plans suggested by pro-Leave politicians, only from Prime Minister David Cameron.

When Hannan pointed out that the Prime Minister is the person who actually has the political power to set plans in motion, the hostility ratcheted up a notch.

EU should 'undermine national homogeneity' says UN migration chief

Via Ryan

 Peter Sutherland

The EU should "do its best to undermine" the "homogeneity" of its member states, the UN's special representative for migration has said.

Peter Sutherland told peers the future prosperity of many EU states depended on them becoming multicultural.

He also suggested the UK government's immigration policy had no basis in international law.

He was being quizzed by the Lords EU home affairs sub-committee which is investigating global migration.

Mr Sutherland, who is non-executive chairman of Goldman Sachs International and a former chairman of oil giant BP, heads the Global Forum on Migration and Development , which brings together representatives of 160 nations to share policy ideas.

He told the House of Lords committee migration was a "crucial dynamic for economic growth" in some EU nations "however difficult it may be to explain this to the citizens of those states.

Witness in Email Probe Seen Leaving Clinton’s House On Day She Met With FBI

Via Billy

Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s former chief of staff during the time Clinton was Secretary of State was spotted leaving Clinton’s residence on the same day Clinton was interviewed by the FBI about her email scandal.

Cheryl Mills, who has been called as a witness in the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server, was seen on video leaving Clinton’s home at about 10 a.m. No explanation was given for why a witness in the investigation would be meeting with Clinton.

Earlier this week, former President Bill Clinton held a private meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch — a meeting that has been criticized as giving the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Half of world’s Muslims are inbred due to generations of incest

Here’s an explanation for Islamic terrorism that’s never proffered:
Insanity and Stupidity
A never-spoken-about problem with Muslims is their inbreeding as a result of their long and deeply-ingrained practice of marrying first cousins — a practice that has been prohibited in the Judeo-Christian tradition since the days of Moses.

More than 7 years ago, the UK’s environment minister Phil Woolas had sounded the alarm about this “very sensitive” issue that is “rarely debated”. Referring to the culture of arranged marriages between cousins in the Muslim immigrant community, Woolas said: “If you have a child with your cousin the likelihood is there’ll be a genetic problem.

Northern Race Riots, Conscription and Substitutes

Draft Rioters Burn the Colored Orphans Asylum, New York, July 1863 (Harper's Weekly

In mid-1863, Tammany Hall’s Boss Tweed found a way to settle the hated draft issue, give Lincoln his cannon fodder, and buy immigrant votes. Tweed brokered a deal with New York City politicians to find substitute recruits for drafted city residents, use the city treasury to pay whatever signing bonus the market would require, and tap a special $2 million “substitute” fund financed by bonds to be sold on Wall Street. If a New York City resident got caught in Lincoln’s draft, he could either use the fund to buy his way out, or join the army and keep the money. With this deal, Lincoln used Tammany Hall to run his draft in New York.

Author Kenneth Ackerman wrote in his biography of Boss Tweed: “His county recruitment drive for the army would attract scandal: abusive bounty brokers, unqualified soldiers — either prisoners from local jails or immigrants literally straight from New York harbor — and middlemen stealing fortunes in graft. But it hardly raised an eyebrow compared to the epidemic of war profiteering that had infected the country.”

Northern Race Riots, Conscription and Substitutes

“For four days terror reigned [in New York City], marked by a series of grisly lynchings [of black residents]. A mob even swarmed onto a British ship in the harbor, and despite the Captain’s protests, cruelly beat up the foreign Negroes among the crew. The police were barely able to save the Tribune Building from total destruction. Men searched for the Tribune’s editor, singing, “We’ll hang Horace Greeley from a sour apple tree.”

A Negro orphanage on Fifth Avenue was burned to the ground. Looters had a field day, among them screeching women who opposed [military] conscription.

Troops were rushed from Gettysburg [immediately after the battle]; cadets from West Point came to aid the police; the entire naval force in the region was called upon to quell the disturbance. Finally, in desperation, the military raked the streets with cannon fire. But what really stopped the rioting was a posted notice: “the draft has been suspended in New York City and Brooklyn.”

The newspapers carried the word in huge print. Order was finally restored. According to the Tribune of July 25, some 350 people had been killed; but other estimates went much higher. Casualties, including the injured, amounted to 1,000 and private property damage was estimated at $1,500,000.

Republican newspapers claimed the outbreak had been sparked by Confederate agents. But Democratic Party feeling and a sincere desire for peace were mingled with race prejudice and resentment against what the anti-Lincoln papers called the “incompetence” of the Administration. Men resented fighting against their convictions and were indignant at “governmental “frauds and profiteering.”

Apparently, from the magnitude of the outbreak, the London Times had not been far wrong in predicting that if the South won in Pennsylvania, Jefferson Davis and General Robert E. Lee would receive a rousing welcome along Broadway.

Soon after the tumult subsided, the Democratic City Council of New York voted that the exemption [from military service] money of four hundred dollars for impecunious draftees would be paid from the city treasury. To meet Governor Seymour’s charge that the conscription as practiced was “unequal, fraudulent and a disgrace,” President Lincoln reduced the New York quotas [for troops].

When the draft was resumed a month later, he took the precaution of sending 10,000 infantrymen and three artillery batteries from the Army of the Potomac to see that the business went off quietly.

During New York’s bloody pandemonium, [British Colonel Arthur] Freemantle had been surprised to hear everyone talking of the “total demoralization of the Rebels.” To him it sounded absurd, since only a few days previously he had left Lee’s army “as full of fight as ever,” much stronger and more efficient from every military point of view than when it had crossed the Potomac to invade Maryland the previous September.

In the Colonel’s opinion, Lee’s army had “not lost any of its prestige at the battle of Gettysburg, in which it had most gallantly stormed strong entrenchments defended by the whole Army of the Potomac.”   Freemantle took ship for England and completed his book of observations at sea. “The mass of respectable Northerners,” he wrote, “though they may be willing to pay, do not very naturally feel themselves called upon to give their blood in a war of aggression, ambition and conquest . . . The more I think of all I have seen in the Confederate States of the devotion of the whole population, the more I feel inclined to say with General Polk — “How can you subjugate such a people as this?”

[And] even supposing that their extermination were a feasible plan, as some Northerners have suggested, I never can believe that in the nineteenth century the civilized world will be condemned to witness the destruction of such a gallant race.”
