The War Lover

 http://www.abbevilleinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/gods-and-generals.jpg

The American Enterprise magazine, a slick-paper, coffee-table arm of the neocon publishing empire, has recognized the premiere of the Civil War film epic “Gods and Generals” by devoting its March issue to the Late Unpleasantness. TAE brings out some deep thinkers to examine American history 1861 – 1865 under the rubric “Just War.” (Shouldn’t there be a question mark in that title? Just for the sake of suspense, if nothing else.)

A proverbial put-down of historical works which presume to be original and important goes like this: the part that is original is not accurate and the part that is accurate is not original. The reverse is nearer true for TAE. What is new is the only accurate and interesting part: that is Bill Kauffman’s review of the movie along with his informative interview with the film’s creator, Ronald Maxwell.

But then, Bill Kauffman is not a neocon but a Western New York populist stranded far from home.
Historian Jay Winik contributes a piece on the current Lincoln criticism which makes the standard, respectable case of historians who actually know something about the subject but are loath to disturb the Lincolnian nationalist mythology: Yes, some bad things happened under Abe, but they were unavoidable necessities, and after all the end justifies the means.

Image result for obama drones killed more than inquisition

Eight years of Obama have killed more people than the Spanish Inquisition:

Obama’s drone campaign has killed more people during the six years of his presidency than were killed the 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition.

In his speech on Thursday, he said:

Humanity has been grappling with these questions throughout human history.  And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.  In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.

Fair enough. But how is Obama himself doing on that score?

Well, on Monday of this week the Bureau of Investigative Journalism published their annual study of deaths from U.S. drone strikes, and reported the following:

At least 2,464 people have now been killed by US drone strikes outside the country’s declared war zones since President Barack Obama’s inauguration six years ago, the Bureau’s latest monthly report reveals.... So how does that number of 2,464 killed in Obama’s drone program — not including those killed in Iraq or Afghanistan — compare to, say, the Spanish Inquisition?

Indiana Pro-life Bill Exposes how Aborted Babies are Flushed Down Sewers (Viewers Caution)

 Image

Babies are not trash. Yet, if you took one step into facilities such as the Indianapolis Planned Parenthood, you’d see how thoughtlessly aborted children were treated once the deed was done.

This is a direct quote from Marianne Anderson, a former Planned Parenthood nurse. Her testimony is frightening and - I must warn you – graphic:
"I saw other doctors come into the products of conception room with the dirty instruments in one hand and a jar in the other. In that jar were the pieces of the baby's body. He would take the contents of that jar, pour it into a big strainer, sift through it to make sure all the parts were there, and then pour it down the drain into the sewer system without treating it in any way.”

Grover Norquist’s Alleged Islamist Ties Threaten Reelection to NRA Board of Directors

 AFP / Brendan Smialowski

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) president Grover Norquist has written a letter to several members of the NRA’s board of directors fervently denying allegations of his ties to Muslim Brotherhood leaders as “conspiracies.”

Norquist is currently facing re-election for his position on the NRA’s board of directors, all while these accusations against him have come under renewed attention—and could dominate discussion of his NRA role in the coming weeks.

In the letter obtained by Breitbart News, Norquist accuses Center for Security Policy (CSP) president Frank Gaffney, a former official in Ronald Reagan’s Pentagon, of being a “stalker” he has had to endure for over a decade. Norquist’s  letter comes as journalist and blogger Lee Stranahan—formerly of Breitbart News, now an independent journalist working for the new media product “Brought To Light”—alleged deeper ties between Norquist and radical Muslims.

“One of the ‘benefits’ of achieving some success in fighting for liberty in the city of Washington D.C. is that some people come to believe you can do anything,” Norquist wrote.

We are all familiar, at least to some degree, with the concept of chain of evidence, Miranda rights, and the 4th and 5th Amendments to the Constitution.

Evidence has to be acquired by legal means. A warrant is required, except under certain circumstances, to seize evidence. So, what happens if there is an incident, whether accidental, or, perhaps, even set up, to create a situation where, by stealthy means, “evidence” is secured without a warrant, or a crime (certain circumstances) in which the evidence can be rightfully secured?

On August 29, 2014, a Border Patrol Agent, claiming that a weapon had been pointed at him, fired five shots, from about 30 feet distant from John Foerster. Surprisingly, he missed hitting Foerster, indicating both poor marksmanship, and suggesting that the agent committed a crime, in violation of BPS policy.

Foerster, Massey, and the third member of their group, Varner, had their five firearms taken from their 4-wheel “mule”, without a warrant – a violation of the 4th Amendment. Then, without being read their Miranda rights, questioned by BPS, a local Sheriff’s deputy, and an FBI agent.

Mother of Two Shot in the Chest, Killed by Police After She Called 911 for Help

An innocent woman who called 911 for help was shot and killed by police who arrived at her home on Tuesday.

She only called them for help, said the family, devastated over their loss.

“My sister would not hurt anyone,” said Debra, her sister.

Betty Sexton was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

It began when Officer LaDoniqua Neely pulled out her gun, aimed it at Betty, and shot her in the chest, according to reports.

NATO/UN Desperately Seek Ceasefire To Save ISIS After Syrian Army Encircles Aleppo

Via comment by Anonymous on May well be annihilation

 http://www.dcclothesline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/syria-guide-map1.jpg

In a military victory that may very well rival the liberation of Qusayr in terms of significance, on February 17, the SAA officially encircled the entirety of Syria’s largest city Aleppo. In so doing, the SAA was also able to seal off the road leading into the city from the North which has been used as a supply route for the terrorist death squads receiving reinforcements and supplies from Turkey since the beginning of the crisis.

While not controlled by the Western-backed terrorist forces entirely, large portions of Aleppo have fallen under death squad control since NATO began backing jihadists forces in earnest in 2010. The Syrian military has long sought to establish control over the entirety of the city and, over the last several months, the SAA has been fighting to do just that. Over the last few weeks, however, the SAA was able to win a number of key battles and take control over a several key villages that enabled it to position itself all the way around Aleppo.

The encirclement of Aleppo comes as the SAA has launched a new offensive against death squad forces in the south, near the occupied Golan Heights and the Syrian/Israeli border.

Robbery Suspect Shot By Pharmacist Dies From Injuries

Kanawha County deputies said a robbery suspect shot by a Pinch pharmacist has died from his injuries.

The robbery occurred about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Pharmacy on North Pinch Road, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. Deputies said a masked male suspect entered the pharmacy and pointed a firearm at the staff. The pharmacist on duty pulled his own firearm that he was carrying concealed and fired the weapon at the suspect. The suspect was struck and fell onto the pharmacy floor. Staff at the pharmacy then began to perform lifesaving measures on the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital where he was taken into surgery. The suspect did succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies said the name of the deceased will be released at a later time pending notification to the family. Currently, based upon witness interviews and video evidence charges will not be filed against the pharmacist, deputies said. The circumstances of this case will be forwarded to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

Emails reveal sensitive info left exposed after US pullout from Yemen

 http://ehistory.osu.edu/sites/ehistory.osu.edu/files/books/end/172.jpg
The Defense Attache Office, Saigon, on 30 April 1973. shows the effects of 9th MAB's thermite charges. The one-time U.S. headquarters, made of concrete and reinforced steel, has literally melted and shrunk.

Inexcusable.  Our DAO Embassy shredders were running one month before the Fall of Saigon.

*****************************

Internal State Department emails reviewed by Fox News reveal that as security unraveled in Yemen, U.S. personnel were scrambling to finalize their exit plan and were so uncertain about what would happen that procedures for safeguarding sensitive information were bypassed -- with permission from Washington.

The unclassified emails reveal staff on the ground in Yemen, as well as senior department executives in Washington, were concerned the evacuation might go bad and left a communication network running at the embassy in case staff had to return. The emails point to uncertainty on the ground amid fast-moving developments, even as the Obama administration downplayed any irregularities.

Ukraine Fighting Shifts To Mariupol Whose Capture Would Grant Russian Land Corridor To Crimea

Via Iver

http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user5/imageroot/2015/02/ukraine%20territory%20update.jpg

Yesterday, when we reported that the last Ukraine outpost in the rebel-controlled eastern territory, the town of Debaltseve, has fallen into separatist hands, we concluded that "perhaps the only question is whether fighting continues around Mariupol which would enable Russia to have a land corridor all the way to Crimea."

Moments ago we got the answer when Reuters reported that "pro-Russian separatists have launched mortar attacks on government-held positions near the coastal town of Mariupol in southeast Ukraine and are building up their forces there, local military reached by telephone said on Thursday."

"Right now there are mortar attacks on Shyrokine," a local military spokesman said referring to a village about 30 km (19 miles) east of Mariupol, along the coast of the Sea of Azov.

"There is no attempt to seize our positions up to now. The rebels are bringing up reserves," the spokesman said.

Well, since the Minsk ceasefire is officially over before it even started, one can be sure that an attempt will be made. The reason: as the updated map below showing who controls what territory in east Ukraine currently - with Debaltseve firmly in separatist hands - Mariupol is the last remaining outpost before "Novorossiya" will have a land access to Crimea.
