NC: Cherokee County allows employees to carry guns at work

Cherokee County leaders are taking North Carolina’s expansion of gun rights a step further by allowing legal concealed weapons in most all county offices.

Anyone, including county employees, may carry a concealed handgun with the proper permit.

Guns are still prohibited inside the courthouse, schools and the jail, said David Wood, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners.

But in offices ranging from the social services to the tax appraiser, they will be allowed, he said.

You are the new barbarians.

There may be a collapse. It could happen. It could happen tomorrow. Vengeful gods could hurl boulders from the sky, cleansing the earth with fires and floods. There could be blood in the streets and gnashing of teeth. A plague of locusts or killer bees, some Chinese flu, or the Zombie Apocalypse. Your debit cards might run empty and your "smart"phones might get real dumb. We may be forced to band together in primal gangs and fight for survival. We may be forced by circumstances beyond our control to rediscover lifeways more familiar to our species—to our ancestral brains—than this endless, banal sprawl of corporate parks and shopping malls.

Or you may just get that one day as a lion, to die like you were born, kicking and screaming and covered in someone else’s blood.

It has a certain appeal.

But while any or all of that could happen (and it could all happen tomorrow), it is also possible that this broken, corrupt system could limp along for a very long time.

Yes, it should fail catastrophically. It deserves to fail. But no matter how much the world needs a reckoning or a reset button, it’s a lot easier on a day-to-day basis for people at every level of society to keep patching it together and doing the best they can until they run out of duct tape.

So . . . until that day comes . . . until everyone runs out of duct tape . . . Until then, almost everyone, even American leaders, seems to agree that America is in decline.

And during that decline, we can expect to see more of what we’ve already been seeing. For most people, that will mean a “progressive” ratcheting down of quality of life, and the lowering of expectations.

What we won't see is some “great awakening” or a dramatic change in leadership or direction. The people who run America aren’t going to “come to their senses.”

As America declines and becomes a failed or failing state, the corporations and businessmen and bureaucrats who run it will continue to preach globalism and multiculturalism and feminism.

They will continue to condemn anything that could be considered racism or tribalism—especially among whites—until they are safely in the minority. They will continue to condemn “male sexism” and continue to promote any kind of go-girl female sexism that emasculates or devalues men. They will continue to promote reverence for their own academic priest class while condemning as “extreme” any religious belief that challenges the moral authority of progressive beliefs. They will continue to promote dependence on the State for security and income and healthcare—for life itself.
And, no matter how many “conflicts” they escalate or how many people they kill or imprison or how militarized their police state thugs become, they will officially continue to condemn “violence.”

They will continue to do all of this because it makes perfect sense for them.

If you were the rulers and toadies of a nation in decline, whose people were bound to lose wealth and status and you wanted to protect your own interests and keep your heads, why would you not want to keep those people separate, emasculated, weak, dependent, faithless, fearful and “non-violent?”

Figureheads may come and go, but I see absolutely no reason why the message will change.

Many of you may see yourselves as civilized men. Sane men in an increasingly insane, vulgar and barbaric world.

But you're wrong! You are the new barbarians.

The official message will continue to be that:

• If you believe that all men are not created equal

If you believe that free men should have access to firearms

• If you believe the government cannot be trusted to regulate every aspect of your life

• If you believe that race means blood and heritage — not just “skin color”

• If you see that men and women are different and believe they should have different roles

• If you believe that men should act like men

• If you believe that gay pride parades and gay marriage are ridiculous

• If you believe in some “old time religion”

If you believe any or all of those things, then, according to the State and corporations, the Academia and the media, you are a stupid, psycho, hillibilly, Neo-Nazi, woman-hating, wife-beating, homophobic throwback, reactionary Neanderthal.

Obama To Americans: You Don't Deserve To Be Free

President Obama’s Kansas speech is a remarkable document. In calling for more government controls, more taxation, more collectivism, he has two paragraphs that give the show away. Take a look at them.
there is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, let’s respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. “The market will take care of everything,” they tell us. If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes–especially for the wealthy–our economy will grow stronger. Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers. But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn’t trickle down, well, that’s the price of liberty.
Now, it’s a simple theory. And we have to admit, it’s one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That’s in America’s DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. (Laughter.) But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked. (Applause.) It didn’t work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression. It’s not what led to the incredible postwar booms of the ’50s and ’60s. And it didn’t work when we tried it during the last decade. (Applause.) I mean, understand, it’s not as if we haven’t tried this theory.
Though not in Washington, I’m in that “certain crowd” that has been saying for decades that the market will take care of everything. It’s not really a crowd, it’s a tiny group of radicals–radicals for capitalism, in Ayn Rand’s well-turned phrase.

The only thing that the market doesn’t take care of is anti-market acts: acts that initiate physical force. That’s why we need government: to wield retaliatory force to defend individual rights.

‘Southern, White Radicals’ are to Blame for ACA Failure

A  few days ago, Washington’s only non-voting member of Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton, blamed the dismal number of enrollees in the Affordable Care Act on Republicans, whom she said, made the American public believe Obamacare had been repealed. To Norton, it was not important that the law is unconstitutional or that the website is not fully functional; it was important to blame Republicans. Fortunately, Eleanor Holmes Norton was wrong to blame Republicans, as it is “southern white radicals” who are to blame for the “disastrous, slow-motion train wreck failure that has been the rollout of the Affordable Care Act.”

Yes, the race card has been played yet again. This time by Gloria J. Browne-Marshall in her essay, “2013: A Year of Racial Challenges.”

According to the site that posted her essay, Browne-Marshall is an Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at John Jay College in New York City, is the author of a book entitled “Race, Law and American Society: 1607 to Present,” and a journalist covering the Supreme Court, United Nations and major legal issues. Of course, it is not indicated where Browne-Marshall received her training in constitutional law nor any school she attended. Interestingly, John Jay College does not even list a curriculum vitae for Browne-Marshall.

Magpul gun firm relocating from Colorado to Texas and Wyoming: Company denounces state curbs passed by Democrats

Magpul Industries, a firearms-accessories maker, announced Thursday that it will relocate its extensive manufacturing facilities to Texas and Wyoming, in angry response to the Colorado legislature’s passage of sweeping gun-control legislation in 2013.

At the same time, the company plans to maintain a toehold in Colorado in order to continue to fight the gun bills passed by the Democratic-dominated state legislature and signed in March by Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

“Moving operations to states that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important,” said Magpul CEO Richard Fitzpatrick, who started the privately-held company in 1999 from the basement of his home in Longmont, Colo. “This relocation will also improve business operations and logistics as we utilize the strengths of Texas and Wyoming in our expansion.”

The windows of restaurants and businesses are often crowded with signs and stickers denoting store hours and accepted credit cards, but a Leesburg restaurateur is looking to add one more decal in the name of constitutional rights.

Bryan Crosswhite has created, an online database where gun-rights businesses can register their names and addresses and get stickers for their windows that signal they are friendly to legal gun owners who exercise their right to bear arms.

Fort Morgan shipwreck may be CSS Monticello

Bowsprit and portion of jib boom believed to be from sunken Civil War schooner

Since a new shipwreck appeared over the holiday season along the Alabama beaches, history buff and author Harry P. Davis has been on the case. He now thinks he has an identification of the vessel.

"So far I haven't seen any identification of the recent shipwreck on Fort Morgan beach so maybe I'll be first to offer my opinion," said Davis.

Recent winds and currents coincided to reveal an assortment of shells and sea life rarely seen along the Gulf beaches . . . everything from starfish to the swarm of Portuguese man 'o war which prompted Purple beach flags to fly last week.

And now another shipwreck is among the rare treasures unveiled by mother nature.

Woman’s Arm Amputated Because Police Put Her Handcuffs On Too Tight

 handcuffs woman hands

The Allegheny County Sheriff claimed that there was nothing spectacular about the arrest; that the officers were following routine procedure. I wouldn’t doubt that the cops’ actions are commonplace, but to suggest that there’s nothing wrong with what they did is a different story.

There was a warrant for 35-year-old Amy Needham, a mother of three, for failing to appear at a preliminary hearing to answer to a charge brought against her. The charge had apparently been reduced to “disorderly conduct.” Maybe a cop had bumped into her.

So, police arrive at her house, and I assume they help themselves in, because she was in the bathroom. No matter. They break down the door to the bathroom, shoot her with a Taser, apply arm bars and wristlocks, handcuff her and haul her off to jail.

Uncle Joe of the Sixth North Carolina Regiment :)

Below is a fond recollection of Sam Ervin’s early days, and Uncle Joe of the Sixth North Carolina.
Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission
"Unsurpassed Valor, Courage and Devotion to Liberty"
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

Uncle Joe of the Sixth North Carolina Regiment:

“Two of the most gallant of Burke County’s fifteen hundred Confederate soldiers was Joe Allman and his younger brother Noah, who were affectionately known by the community as Uncle Joe and Uncle Noah. They served in one of North Carolina’s most heroic combat units, the famous Sixth North Carolina Regiment.  Uncle Noah was a teetotalist, but Uncle Joe sometimes succumbed to the temptation to imbibe a little too freely.

Uncle Joe’s devotion to the Confederacy intensified as the years passed. He attended all reunions of Confederate veterans, arrayed with the badges and ribbons denoting his attendance at previous reunions.

Shortly after our wedding trip, my wife and I met Uncle Joe on a Morganton sidewalk. He was enroute to the forthcoming reunion in Memphis, bedecked with all his badges and ribbons. Uncle Joe extracted a bottle of booze from his hip pocket and invited my wife and I to drink with him.
At that time North Carolina was bedeviled by the hysteria of prohibition, and the courts rarely extended any mercy to anyone who was apprehended in the possession of intoxicating beverages. In declining his invitation, I gave Uncle Joe this warning:

“Uncle Joe, please put that bottle back in your pocket. If the police catch you with it, they will take you to jail, and you’ll miss the reunion.”

“Don’t you worry about that,” Uncle Joe said. “Before the police could even lock the jailhouse door, Sue Tate and the Daughters of the Confederacy would set me free and send me to Memphis.”

Knowing cousin Sue as I did, I am convinced that Uncle Joe was right.”

After the Good Lord called Uncle Joe hence, a former resident visited Morganton, met Uncle Noah, and asked him about Uncle Joe. “Brother Joe died last year,” Uncle Noah informed him. “If he hadn’t drunk so much mean booze, he might have lived to a ripe old age.”

How old was Uncle Joe when he died?” the former resident inquired.

Uncle Noah replied, “About ninety.”

Budget Cuts Imperil Federal Court System, Roberts Says

Budget cuts have imperiled the ability of the federal court system to deliver prompt justice and to protect the public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote on Tuesday in his annual report on the state of the federal judiciary. He said the mandatory budget cuts known as sequestration had taken a disproportionate toll on the federal court system and were poised to “pose a genuine threat to public safety.”

Unlike federal agencies, the chief justice said, the federal courts do not have discretionary programs they can postpone or eliminate, “because virtually all of their core functions are constitutionally and statutorily required.”

NYT to Obama: Stop Vilification of Edward Snowden

Miracles never cease.

The New York Times has published a opinion piece, arguing that Edward Snowden should be recognized as a whistle-blower and asking President Obama "to begin finding a way to end Mr. Snowden’s vilification and give him an incentive to return home."

Considering the enormous value of the information he has revealed, and the abuses he has exposed, Mr. Snowden deserves better than a life of permanent exile, fear and flight. He may have committed a crime to do so, but he has done his country a great service. It is time for the United States to offer Mr. Snowden a plea bargain or some form of clemency that would allow him to return home, face at least substantially reduced punishment in light of his role as a whistle-blower, and have the hope of a life advocating for greater privacy and far stronger oversight of the runaway intelligence community.

The Times presents a list of "violations" that Snowden has revealed to the public:

Minister Calls NYC a 'Plantation' During Race-Focused de Blasio Inauguration

More useful fools at work furthering Communism.

Race took center stage Wednesday at the inauguration of Mayor Bill de Blasio, with one minister who peppered his invocation with slavery references comparing New York City to a "plantation," and singer Harry Belafonte decrying racial injustices as "Dickensian."

“Let the plantation called New York City be the city of God, a city set upon the hill, a light shining in darkness,” Rev. Fred Lucas Jr., said during his invocation, according to video posted on the blog site Mediaite.

“Elevate our valleys. Make low our mountains. Make our crooked places straight and our rough places smooth. Oh God, oh God, oh God, break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.”

Furthering his slavery analogy, the cleric said:

“Oh God, on this first day of January–the anniversary of the first Emancipation Proclamation–sound forth the trumpets of heaven proclaiming a new Emancipation Proclamation in New York City.

A gun from the failed U.S. operation known as "Fast and Furious" turned up at the scene of a shootout between Mexican authorities and alleged cartel gunmen last month, according to CNN.

U.S. officials told CNN at least one AK-47-style gun that could be traced back to the failed gun-walking scheme was found at the scene.

The shootout on Dec. 18 left five alleged cartel members dead in Puerto PeƱasco, a popular tourist site in Mexico.

It’s official: Obamacare debuts with more canceled plans than enrollments

Obamacare may have promised health insurance for the masses. But on its first day, it’s left more Americans without coverage than before the law was passed.

More than 4.7 million Americans had their health insurance canceled as a result of any of the thousand-plus-page law’s new rules, the Associated Press reports, but the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed Tuesday that between federal and state exchanges, just 2 million Americans have signed up for Obamacare coverage. (RELATED: Obama administration announces net loss of at least 3 million insurance plans)

The Obama administration has yet to announce the final tally of full enrollments, which are only confirmed once customers have made their first payment, but Cato Institute health policy expert Michael Cannon warns that not all those who signed up will complete their purchases, potentially leaving the White House with an even lower bottom line.

Commies at work: 59% Favor Assault Weapons Ban

Most voters still favor a ban on semi-automatic and assault-type weapons but strongly oppose outlawing handguns in the United States. Seven-out-of-10 would feel safer living a neighborhood where individuals could own a gun for self-defense.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters think there should be a ban on the purchase of semi-automatic and assault-type weapons. Thirty-three percent (33%) disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

2014: The best New Year's gift ever

"I'm happy that you are my Daddy."

Will the Mockingjay Catch Fire?

The more ripened I become, which is really just that self-delusionary way of saying I am "ontologically antique," the more I realize the fact that self-deception is a double edged feature that helps conserve our psychic equilibrium -- tentatively offering an illusory but necessary species of faux-hope for we bitter clingers to bitterly cling to. Such happy figments, arriving in the form of emotional "fail-safes," caress our ears in their myriad forms. I offer as evidence the following: "That knock under the car hood will eventually go away" or "Dear Mother will eventually pull through." As humans, so often we psychologically whitewash the world, even as the objective frigid blast of reality orients her harsh dials to the unyielding indicators of sorrow and ruin.

It is possible to know something, and yet not know it: to consent to a thing subliminally while simultaneously averting our inward eye so as not to perceive its true gravity. I suppose the vague idea of an impending American revolution has been rolling around in my head for some time now, although it has remained ensconced within its intellectual boundaries and was careful not to spill over into the sphere of my emotions -- the arena of visceral reactions where the gnashing of teeth and the trembling hand takes precedence over prudence. But I know it now to be inescapable. Civil and cultural war is at hand, lines have been drawn, and the center has not held. I do not know what form it will manifest itself in, but the sulfurous whiff of rebellion is in the wind, and I find such a destiny to be unyielding.
