Idaho Bill: “Atlas Shrugged” To Be Required Reading For Students

I would choose Bastiat's The Law read in 7th grade of our Robinson Homeschool Curriculum.

Idaho State Senator John Goedde (R) introduced legislation on Tuesday that would require Idaho secondary student to read and pass an exam on the 1957 novel “Atlas Shrugged” by famed author Ayn Rand. The legislation is though to be mostly a symbolic move to teach “personal responsibility.”
The bill reads:
“The student shall obtain a passing grade on the examination in order to satisfy the graduation requirement provided for in this section. Such examination shall be approved by the state department of education.”
According to Goedde, the bill is more of a protest to the State Board of Education’s decision to roll back online class requirements.

“Traditionally in Idaho, the State Board of Education sets graduation requirements in rule,” Goedde wrote in an email to Fox News on Thursday. “They recently repealed a rule dealing with online class requirements and failed to move another rule forward dealing with administrators demonstrating proficiency in evaluating teachers. I felt both were important and wanted to remind them that the legislature could also set graduation standards.”

How the post-Sandy Hook gun control push spectacularly backfired in America

In the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, the gun grabbers across America unleashed a full court press to try to wholly disarm American citizens. With the help of the incessantly anti-gun mainstream media, people like Biden, Bloomberg, Cuomo, Feinstein and Obama managed to stir up a frenzy of fabricated fear that promised all our children would be violently gunned down if we didn't immediately agree to turn in all our guns and ammo magazines.

The push for gun control, however, has spectacularly backfired. In reality, it has hardened the positions of gun rights advocates while massively increasing the number of AR-15s and other firearms sold across the country.

The backfire is far worse than the gun grabbers could have possibly imagined when they launched their efforts on the graves of the dead Sandy Hook children. Here's my analysis of what has factually happened on the gun control front since Sandy Hook.

Analysis of ways in which the gun grab backfired

Observers estimate that—even on a workday—between 600 and 1,000 gun owners mobbed the legislature Tuesday at GRNC’s Second Amendment Freedom Rally. Held in the Halifax Mall, under the office windows of lawmakers during a legislative day, GRNC supporters delivered a coordinated two-fold message to legislators, the media, and the world:
  1. At a state level, it is time to expand the 18-year success of our concealed handgun law to include restaurants, educational property, and other areas.

  2. Absolutely nothing about federal gun control proposals is acceptable, and gun owners will not compromise on the issue.
GRNC volunteers made the difference

Organized by GRNC Director of Development Josette Chmiel, more than a dozen GRNC volunteers efficiently set up the event, signed up members, recorded photos and video of the event, and beginning at 10:00 AM, directed gun rights supporters to legislators’ offices. As hundreds of gun owners visited the offices of their House and Senate representatives as well the leadership of both chambers, the lime green “Guns Save Lives” stickers they wore seemed to flood the complex.

Politicians and media got the message

Unlike rallies held at unoccupied capitols on weekends, the media swarmed this event. Most Raleigh-area TV outlets were present, plus the Associated Press and National Public Radio. WRAL-TV ran live streaming coverage of nearly the full event on its website (to see it, check GRNC’s home page at AP coverage of the event ran as far as San Francisco.

In addition to legislators who addressed the enthusiastic crowd, numerous others state lawmakers attended the rally, up to and reportedly including Lt. Governor Dan Forest (GRNC ****). Inside the legislature, representatives, legislative assistants, and staff were all keenly aware your presence.

Speakers energized the crowd

Opening the rally, Pastor Rod Chaney (who ran for House 50 in 2012 and earned GRNC’s highest 4-star evaluation), led the group in prayer by urging them to be drawn to action in defending the rights of free people. Josette Chmiel then got up to reiterate GRNC’s “no compromise” position. Jay Delaney, Executive Director of the Voter Integrity Project, spoke of the impact of voter fraud on gun rights.

Next, the keynote speaker and nationally renowned WPTF conservative talk show host Bill LuMaye discussed the historical perspective of the Second Amendment in preventing tyranny, describing how states should nullify unconstitutional laws and calling upon Republican leadership to “walk the walk.”

Other speakers included Rules Chairman Rep. Tim Moore; Sen. Andrew Brock, who called upon gun owners to be ever-vigilant and to stand and fight for the Second Amendment; former Rep. Glen Bradley; Sen. Jeff Tarte; and Rep. Larry Pittman, who described his proposed amendment to the North Carolina Constitution, which would strengthen the right to arms and would require the State to resist federal attempts to disarm the citizenry.

As rally participants became increasingly energized, GRNC President Paul Valone took the stage to remind them of the lessons of 1994, when “compromise” on relatively benign gun control proposals led to the introduction of the draconian gun ban known as “Brady II.” As the crowd’s fervor grew, he said:

But make no mistake: These “reasonable” universal background checks are designed to create the beginnings of a national gun registration system. And registration is the necessary prelude to confiscation.

So tell people who support this “reasonable” measure that the Clinton administration already tried to turn the National Instant Check System into a defacto gun registration system by failing to expunge transaction records, in violation of the law.

They lied to us last time. Will we trust them this time?”

The crowd’s cry of “NO!” was so resolute that it not only rang but actually echoed off the windows of the Legislative Office Building.

Said Valone, “This is not 1994. Born of fire, scores of gun rights organizations like Grass Roots North Carolina have spent nearly two decades preparing for JUST. THIS. MOMENT.” Building to a crescendo, he said, “So now I want you to deliver a message that shakes the politicians behind these windows…”

The resulting three chants from the crowd, repeating with increasing volume to literally rattle legislators’ windows were:

Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler says private sales will continue

After GRNC dropped hundreds of emails into the office of Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, asking whether he would support statements made earlier by Agriculture Police Chief Joel Keith that private gun sales would no longer be allowed at state-run facilities hosting gun shows, Troxler’s office asked GRNC for a meeting. During the meeting, Troxler described complexities of safely holding gun shows at the state fairground, but promised that details were being worked out with gun show promoters to allow private sales to continue.

Patriot and Second Amendment supporter Rona Herman is helping to organize an assembly at the NC State Capitol in Raleigh to support gun rights. This assembly is being conducted concurrently with groups across the country who will gather at state capitols in support of freedom.

These coordinated demonstrations will take place Friday, February 8th from 10 am until 1 pm. The North Carolina contingent will gather in Raleigh at the Bicentennial Plaza, 1 East Edenton Street. Maryland State Senator Plays Chess While Ignoring Pro-Gun Testimony

Senator Raskin purportedly playing computer chess while citizens were testifying.

Last night in Annapolis, Maryland a hearing was conducted on new sweeping gun control proposals for the state via SB 281, the Firearm Safety Act of 2013. State Senator Jamie Raskin (D), an anti-gun advocate, decided to ignore the pro-Second Amendment testimony that others were listening to and instead opted for a game of electronic chess. Just makes you proud doesn’t it citizens of Maryland?

The photo seen here was provided courtesy of the Maryland Shooters Facebook page.

Many commenters on the page were, shall we say, a bit upset at his lack of performance in the role as State Senator.

The first comment pretty much sums them all up, “Nice way to pay attention asshole…can we impeach him? for obvious dereliction of duty?”

Another carried others sentiments, “Very disrespectful to the citizens who were speaking. Shameful.”
One person even sent the picture to all the committee members and listed their emails to make sure they were aware that their colleague wasn’t exactly giving a “fair hearing” to the speaker.

While Raskin obviously wanted people to listen on the Governor’s gun safety package, which is not about safety at all but elimination of certain types of weapons, it doesn’t seem he was interested in paying attention to the other side.

Americans Prefer Illegal Immigrants Head Home

Via Don

A new poll using neutral language — and avoiding the false choice of conditional legalization vs. mass deportations — finds that most Americans want illegal immigrants to return to their home counties, rather than be given legal status. The findings also show a very large gap in intensity, with those who want illegal immigrants to head home feeling much stronger about that option than those who would like to see illegal immigrants receive legal status.
  • Of likely voters, 52 percent responded that they preferred to see illegal immigrants in the United States go back to their home countries, compared to just 33 percent who would like them to be given legal status.
  • There is an enormous gap in intensity between the two views on immigration. Of those who want illegal immigrants to head home, 73 percent indicated that they felt “very strongly” about that view, while just 35 percent of those who want illegal immigrants to get legal status said they felt very strongly about this view.
  • One reason the public may prefer that illegals head home is a strong belief that efforts to enforce immigration laws have been inadequate — 64 percent said that enforcement of immigration laws has been “too little”, while just 10 percent said that it had been too much, and 15 percent said it was “just right”.
  • When asked why there is a large illegal population in the country, voters overwhelming (71 percent) thought it was because we had not made a real effort to enforce our immigration laws. Only 18 percent said it was because we were not letting in enough immigrants legally.
  • Another reason for skepticism about legalization is that most voters (69 percent) agreed with the statement that “giving legal status to illegal immigrants does not solve the problem because rewarding law breaking will only encourage more illegal immigration.” Just 26 percent disagreed.
  • When asked if they had confidence that immigration laws would be enforced in the event of a legalization, just 27 percent expressed confidence that there would be enforcement, while 70 percent indicated that they were not confident immigration law would be enforced.
  • Enforcement remains politically very popular. Of likely voters, 53 percent indicated that they would be more likely to support a political party that supports enforcing immigration laws vs. only 32 percent who said they would be more likely to support a party that supports legalization.

$outhern Poverty Law Center website triggered FRC shooting

Via Don

The Family Research Council shooter, who pleaded guilty today to a terrorism charge, picked his target off a "hate map" on the website of the ultra-liberal Southern Poverty Law Center which is upset with the conservative group's opposition to gay rights.

Floyd Lee Corkins II pleaded guilty to three charges including a charge of committing an act of terrorism related to the August 15, 2012 injuring of FRC's guard. He told the FBI that he wanted to kill anti-gay targets and went to the law center's website for ideas.

At a court hearing where his comments to the FBI were revealed, he said that he intended to "kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in victims' faces, and kill the guard." The shooting occurred after an executive with Chick-Fil-A announced his support for traditional marriage, angering same-sex marriage proponents.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said that the Southern Poverty Law Center should take responsibility for the shooting and take down their hate map.

What Your Local police are reading -- The “Warrior Ethos”

Via Bernhard

North Carolina League of the South

“The law enforcement profession must reevaluate its understanding of community policing if there’s any hope of saving the philosophy from becoming a 21st century anachronism. The violent nature of criminal activity will only make [the gap between strategic and tactical demands] wider in the coming years.  The philosophy….demands that law enforcement officers and agencies spend time working on both reducing crime and the fear of crime among the general population. In this model, notions of idealistic, close community relationships flourish.

But this begs the question of who constitutes the “community” for which law enforcement “works” and whether that community should impose politically acceptable priorities or influence police methods. Such a scheme runs the risk of politicizing law enforcement. There is also a more insidious problem. The localities and agencies that have embraced community policing may be unintentionally fostering the very police state the philosophy was meant to discourage. Using law enforcement as a consensual tool in civil disputes builds a dependency on the coercive presence of armed officers for problem resolution in area better suited for social services.

[This] doesn’t sit well with the personality types drawn to modern police work. Just read any police publication. Few of the popular periodicals extol the virtues of community policing but instead celebrate the “warrior” ethos that finds strong purchase among today’s officers. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all the accompanying contracts for police trainers, have only bolstered this popular paramilitary image. For the individual officer, however, community policing consists of nothing more than knowing the community well enough to be at the right place, at the right time, to deter crime and, should that fail, to develop probably cause to make an arrest.”

DHS Purchases 21.6 Million More Rounds of Ammunition

Via Don

The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for civil unrest. war.

solicitation posted yesterday on the Fed Bid website details how the bullets are required for the DHS Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico.

The solicitation asks for 10 million pistol cartridge .40 caliber 165 Grain, jacketed Hollow point bullets (100 quantities of 100,000 rounds) and 10 million 9mm 115 grain jacketed hollow point bullets (100 quantities of 100,000 rounds).

The document also lists a requirement for 1.6 million pistol cartridge 9mm ball bullets (40 quantities of 40,000 rounds).

An approximation of how many rounds of ammunition the DHS has now secured over the last 10 months stands at around 1.625 billion. In March 2012, ATK announced that they had agreed to provide the DHS with a maximum of 450 million bullets over four years, a story that prompted questions about why the feds were buying ammunition in such large quantities. In September last year, the federal agency purchased a further 200 million bullets.

KTLA: Massive Manhunt for Ex-Cop After 3 Officers Shot

Excerpt (video at link):

…RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KTLA) — A massive manhunt is underway for a double murder suspect who is a former police officer, after three officers were shot overnight, one fatally.

The suspect is believed to be Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, a former LAPD officer and Navy reservist, known to be a skilled sniper. Officials warned that he is armed and dangerous.

Dorner is believed to be driving a blue or gray Nissan Titan pickup, California license plate 8D83987 or similar. He may have changed the plates.

A blue alert for the suspect has been issued for Kern, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego and Imperial counties.

Two LAPD officers were in Corona around 1:45 a.m. Thursday on a special detail related to the search for Dorner, who posted an online manifesto threatening police.

A citizen approached the officers, and directed them to a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s truck…

Text of “manifesto”:

From: Christopher Jordan Dorner /7648

To: America

Subj: Last resort

I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be vilified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse. The consent decree should never have been lifted. The only thing that has evolved from the consent decree is those officers involved in the Rampart scandal and Rodney King incidents have since promoted to supervisor, commanders, and command staff, and executive positions.

Enemies of the State: Prepare to be treated as enemy combatants

Via Bernhard

7 February 2013

Re: Enemies of the State

For immediate release

A recently uncovered White Paper from the Obama administration reveals that the White House Office of Legal Counsel has instructed the President that he is within the law to kill American citizens, either here or abroad, if they are in any way associated with “terrorism.” In effect, this legal memo allows the President—or others in his regime--to be judge, jury, and executioner. And it can all be done in complete secrecy because of “national security” concerns. And the President gets to decide the criteria that make one a terrorist or a supporter of terrorism.

When a citizen can be deprived of life, liberty, and property at the mere whim of the President, in secret and without due process, then that citizen has been declared an enemy of the State. Not a citizen, not even a subject, but an outright enemy of State.

League President, Dr. Michael Hill, said: “We have seen our fundamental legal protections of liberty and property disappear one by one during the last half century as the Constitution and Bill of Rights have simply been pushed aside as a mere piece of parchment. We have borne such abuses too patiently, hoping vainly that we could somehow continue to live as free men in peace. But the latest revelation that even our very lives can be forfeit if the regime should deem it right and proper rips the mask completely off the monster. There is no doubt whatsoever that those who control the government think it their prerogative to literally destroy any and all who oppose them. Now do you understand why they want to deprive you of your guns and ammunition?”

Hill continued: “Therefore, we in The League of the South caution our fellow Southerners to prepare to be treated as enemy combatants on an ever changing and elastic ‘battlefield.’ Any dissent, no matter how innocent or justified, may serve to bring the hammer down at the time and place of the regime’s choosing. And you will have no ‘right’ to oppose their actions. You have been declared, ipso facto, a ‘domestic terrorist,’ one who is beyond the Pale. You should act as if your life is in danger . . . because it is.”

The League urges all Southerners and others of goodwill to appeal to their State governments to call secession conventions as soon as practically possible in order to preserve our ancient rights to life, liberty, and property.

This is from the Washington Times, Stephen Dinan. "President Obama´s health care law will push 7 million people out of their job-based insurance coverage -- nearly twice the previous estimate, according to the latest estimates from the Congressional Budget Office released [yesterday]." Black Conservatives Targeted on Twitter, Facebook

 National Black Prolife Coalition

A black pro-life coalition had its Twitter account shut down after they announced plans on the social networking site to protest the NAACP.

“Twitter shut us down,” said Stephen Broden, a spokesman for the National Black Prolife Coalition and Dallas-area pastor.

Their trouble started on Jan. 28 when Leroy Dodd, the group’s social media manager, sent out a tweet promoting the demonstration against the NAACP at the Image Awards.

“We sent out our first tweet at 9:17 a.m.,” he told Fox News. “Eight tweets later we were shut down.”

Dodd said he received a message from Twitter advising him that he had been suspended.

“I had to acknowledge I had been reported and I needed to change my behavior,” Dodd said.

He complied and the suspension was lifted – but when he put out another tweet accusing the NAACP of betraying the black community – the account was shut down again.

“By that evening we were completely suspended and we remained suspended for several days,” he said.
The suspension was finally lifted but only after the day of their planned protest had passed.

“We suspected that would happen,” Dodd said.

Neither Twitter or the NAACP responded to calls for comment.

“This is nothing new,” Dodd told Fox News. “It’s becoming popular with liberals and liberal organizations to report conservatives – a way to silence opposition.”

The administrator of the  Rocky Mountain Black Conservative Facebook page received a 30-day suspension several days ago. No reason was given.

And over the past several weeks a number of high profile conservative Facebook pages have either been shut down or threatened with suspension. An administrator for the Chicks on the Right Facebook page was briefly banned for criticizing the White House.

Pastor Broden said it’s a form of censorship.

House votes 253-167 to require balanced budget date from President Obama

The Republican-led House passed legislation Wednesday that would force President Obama to estimate when the federal budget will balance again — and outline the steps he proposes to eliminate the budget deficit.

The Require a PLAN Act is part of a new Republican attempt to force Obama and the Democratic Senate to engage in efforts to cut the deficit. Republicans have roundly criticized Obama for submitting late budgets that don't balance, and the Senate for failing to produce any budget plan at all in nearly four years.

As expected, the House approved the bill in a mostly party-line 253-167 vote, although 26 Democrats went against their leaders and supported the legislation. Most of the Democrats who voted yes are politically vulnerable in 2014. Reps. Bruce Braley (Iowa) and John Barrow (Ga.), who are considering Senate bids, voted with the GOP. Senate-hopeful Rep. Paul Broun (Ga.) was the only Republican to vote no.

Bruce Willis on Gun Control: Don't Pick Apart the Bill of Rights

Actor Bruce Willis is speaking out against recent attacks on the Second Amendment and new gun control measures being batted around on Capitol Hill, a far cry from many of the people in Hollywood lately including hypocritical Rambo star Sylvester Stallone.

Bruce Willis says he's against new gun control laws that could infringe on Second Amendment rights. The "Die Hard" star also dismisses any link between Hollywood shootouts and real-life gun violence.

"I think that you can't start to pick apart anything out of the Bill of Rights without thinking that it's all going to become undone," Willis told The Associated Press in a recent interview while promoting his latest film, "A Good Day To Die Hard." The first indication from state authorities that Adam Lanza may have not acted alone.

Via NC Links

Connecticut State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky has argued that unsealing warrants in the Sandy Hook case might "seriously jeopardize" the investigation by disclosing information known only to other "potential suspects." we’re going to look at every single thing, every piece of material and we’ll take it from there."
Sedensky said that unsealing the warrants would also: "identify persons cooperating with the investigation, thus possibly jeopardizing their personal safety and well-being." The statement by the CT prosecutor's office is the first indication from state authorities that Adam Lanza may have not acted alone. The statement was made in support of a motion to continue the seal on the results of five search warrants for 90 more days.

CT State Police Public Affairs Officer Lt. Paul Vance said in an official press release on December 16th that: The male subject identified as the shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School has been identified as ADAM LANZA DOB: 04/22/92; he resided at 36 Yogananda Street. His cause of death was gunshot wound and his death is ruled a suicide. However, neither Vance nor the CT Attorney General's office have ever ruled out the possible presence of other suspects. The New Haven Register reports Vance as having said:

"Whenever you conduct an investigation you don’t speculate as to where it’s going to take you, as I said, we’re going to look at every single thing, every piece of material and we’ll take it from there."
