Rabbi Gutheim Prays for Confederate Success

 http://www.sc.edu/uscpress/books/2000/3363.jpg

After his banishment from New Orleans by Northern forces, Rev. James K. Gutheim became rabbi of the Kahl Montgomery Congregation in Alabama, plus circuit-riding every six Sabbath to the B’nai Israel Congregation in Columbus, Georgia. He returned to his congregation in New Orleans after the war; Mrs. Gutheim was a founder of the Ladies Confederate Memorial Association of New Orleans.

Rabbi Gutheim Prays for Confederate Success

“One of the leading rabbi’s of the South, Rev. James K. Gutheim, who had inaugurated his rabbinical career at the Nefutzoth Jeduhah Congregation in New Orleans, [believed that religion], for him, was not intended to be mixed with specific political considerations.

[In May 1863], The Union’s military policy in New Orleans required that each citizen take an oath of allegiance to the United States, or be transported into the Confederacy.  Innumerable men took the course of least resistance and pronounced the words of the oath, rather than give up their homes, livelihoods, and personal belongings; they did not really think they were committing a sin; it was the enemy of their people whom they were deceiving.

But Gutheim was a rabbi; he could not take a false oath to God, nor could he betray “the cause of right and justice” which was, to him, the cause of the South. So he prepared to go into exile. The day before his departure for Mobile, [Alabama], he wrote to his friend in Philadelphia, [Rabbi] Isaac Lesser . . .

“My Dear Friend – Day after tomorrow I shall leave . . . by order of the military authorities.  All those who have refused to take the oath of allegiance to the Dictator of Washington are ordered beyond the lines – that is, into Dixie.  I am of that number.  Nearly the whole of my congregation are similarly situated.  We can now realize what a [deportation] means.  Nothing for my wearing apparel and provisions for ten days are permitted.  My heart feels sick. Amidst the general distress I forget my own.  I am so far lucky, that I have an asylum for my wife and child – at LaGrange, Geo. Where the family of Mr. Jones [Mrs. Gutheim’s father] now resides.  What shall I do in the future, I cannot say.  I trust to God, to guide my steps.  If possible I shall write you from the Confederacy.  Yours truly, James K. Gutheim.

Neither Lesser nor Gutheim need have had any fears about his future.  Jews all over the South knew and respected him as one of most eloquent and learned of the Southern rabbis. His reputation, indeed, was enhanced by his heroic decision to remain true to the Confederacy.

His passionate loyalty to the Southern cause is revealed by a prayer which he delivered in Montgomery:

“Regard, O Father, in Thine abundant favor and benevolence, our beloved country, the Confederate States of America.  May our young Republic increase in strength, prosperity and renown; may the helm of state be piloted with judgment; may wisdom resound in the halls of legislation, and harmony, obedience to the law, fortitude in trials and a self-sacrificing devotion prevail among the people.

Behold, O God, and judge between us and our enemies, who have forced upon us this unholy and unnatural war – who hurl against us their poisoned arrows steeped in ambition and revenge.  May they soon discover the error of their ways, relinquish their cruel designs of subjugation, their lust of gain and dominion, and yield a ready and willing ear to the dictates of humanity, of justice and of right.

Bless, O Father, our efforts in a cause which we conceive to be just; the defense of our liberties and rights and independence, under just and equitable laws.  And we pray, Thee, O God, to bless and protect the armed hosts, that now stand forth in the defense of our sacred cause.  Vain are the exertions of man without Thy aid.

Behold, O Father, and cover with the shield of Thy heavenly Guardianship our sons, our brothers and our friends – the flower and the hope of the land.  Endow their hearts with courage – nerve their arms with strength in the hour of combat.  May the breaches lately made in our lines soon be repaired, a series of glorious victories blot out our recent reverses, and the unrighteous invaders be repulsed on every side, abashed, confounded and discomfited.

Thou, O Lord, who makest peace in the highest heavens, mayest Thou bless us with a speedy and honorable peace, so that safety, confidence and happiness again smile upon the land, and our independence be recognized by all families of the earth . . . “

The undiscussed aspect of mass immigration into Swedish society

 http://www.whyileftsweden.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/bodysnatchers.jpg

If you highlight that there are cultural problems in Sweden between immigrants and Swedes, you are dubbed a xenophobic racist right away.

You are not allowed to address these issues, you are not allowed to talk about them and you have absolutely no right to criticize other people with different cultural values.

I think that some aspects of these problems could be fixed with even some basic communication (leading to understanding), but the political correct VIRUS that exists in this country has prevented this from happening. “Don’t talk about it – put the lid on it!”

With communication some basic level misunderstanding could have been avoided, some other cultural values are more difficult to “fix” over come even with so called “tolerance”.

This philosophy and this inability to address some of these issues in the open … because it’s “offensive”, is acctually a huge disservice that the politically correct political class and their indoctrinated drones do to themselves, they just don’t know it yet. They just don’t get it.

The longer that all of this is suppressed and “the lid is kept one” …the worse it will get. Sweden is not an open society. eveything is very hush hush and it’s like a “pressure cooker”. Well, one day this pressure cooker will explode – because no steam is being let out. When that happens, I would NOT want to be in this country!

It might be another 5 years or maybe even 50 years, but the fact is …it’s going to happen sooner or later.

GRNC: Gathered significant information on James M. Lawitz and others at Civitas Media

Civitas Media (not Institute) Abandons Attack on Concealed Carry

Concerned GRNC supporters have been contacting us over reports that Civitas Media is assembling lists of citizens with carry permits from all 50 states. Note Civitas Media has no relationship to the libertarian organization, Civitas Institute.

According to Civitas Media's website, this idea has been scrapped. It would have been impossible to have included NC gun owners on such a list due to privatization of this information following successful passage of GRNC-backed HB937. Despite protection of North Carolinans, GRNC will not tolerate these types of attacks on any group of citizens.
In order to put Civitas Media on notice, GRNC President Paul Valone contacted Michael Bush, President & CEO of Civitas Media, and reminded him of WRAL reporter Mark Binker's unpleasant experience following his unwise publication of NC gun owner information. Mr. Valone's letter is copied below:

Dear Mr. Bush:

I cannot tell you how delighted I was to discover that Civitas Media recently established offices in Davidson, just a stone's throw from my Cornelius home. In yet another twist of coincidence, I too considered attending Hobart College. (I ended up picking Hamilton instead.) Please let me welcome Civitas to North Carolina.

I was equally delighted to discover this statement on your corporate website:

"Civitas Media never had any plans or intentions of publishing in print or online lists of holders of 'conceal and carry' permits.  Nor will Civitas Media develop databases of permit holders.  A poorly crafted internal memo meant to highlight editorial discussions and planning incorrectly indicated that such a database was being planned; it has been considered and rejected."

As you may know, Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) is our state's primary gun rights organization. We were largely responsible for passing our concealed handgun law in 1995, and for a number of expansions of the law in the years since. At present, there are approximately 324,000 active concealed handgun permit-holders in North Carolina. Our organization routinely issues email alerts to 87,000 gun owners on matters of relevance to the Second Amendment.

As you might anticipate, GRNC cannot stand idly by while gun owners' privacy is compromised. In 2012, when WRAL-TV created a searchable database of permit-holders, including their partial addresses, we were forced to respond by releasing equivalent personal information about the reporter who did the piece, Mark Binker, his family, and others at WRAL to approximately 60,000 gun rights supporters (our membership was smaller then).

At the time, I noted that in the era of the Internet, we all live in glass houses, making it a poor idea to start throwing stones. Here are some links describing the event:

 http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/wral-pressured-by-gun-rights-group-after-report-on-concealed-weapons-permits_b55628

 http://silencedogood2010.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/grnc-vs-wral-tv5/
 http://bit.ly/1gc9FhU

As depicted in the last link, many in the media seemed shocked that we would respond in kind. Gun owners, however, are highly protective of their privacy. For example, I understand that after the editor of a small newspaper near the town of Murphy made a FOIA request for local pistol purchase permit information, he not only apologized profusely to readers but actually felt compelled to move out of state. (We played no role in that.)

Although we have talented volunteers at GRNC who have already gathered significant information on James M. Lawitz and others at Civitas Media, it is my hope that we can all live together in harmony. If I can answer questions or be of help in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hobby Lobby May Close All 500+ Stores in 41 States

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn’t much bigger than most people’s living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God’s word.

From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We’re Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I’ve always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God’s laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that’s what we’ve tried to do.

We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week’s biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest.

"We the People", but, Who are We?

"...........any who have designs contrary to the support and continuation of the United States, as intended by the Framers, and described herein, are inconsistent with the purpose of the country, and, as such, are against the Constitution and should be deemed unacceptable and unwanted visitors."

***********************************

In some research for another article (The Fourteenth Article in Amendment to the Constitution), I ran across a rather enlightening revelation.  It was, just 60 years after the Constitution, a clear and concise definition of just (and only) who the "We the People", in the Preamble to the Constitution, really are.

Now, most of us will assume that any citizen of the United States is one of, "We the People".  I must admit that until recently, I, too, believed this to be the case.

Regardless of the (political) correctness of this assumption, we must understand that the law is what it was intended to be, not what we might want it to be.  There is only one means by which that can be changed, and that is the amendment process defined in Article V, of the Constitution.
So, here is what was revealed to us, by the Supreme Court of the United States, with regard to a definitive answer to the question.  The case is Dred Scott v. Sandford  -  60 U.S. 393 (1856)

GOA ALert: The Next Big Gun Fight: Stopping 8 Million New Anti-gun Voters

“[A] Pew poll suggests that illegal immigrants, if given citizenship, would vote for liberal, anti-gun candidates by an 8-to-1 margin.” - GOA’s Erich Pratt, commenting on Pew poll findings as reported in The Washington Post (7/22/13)

Next Wednesday, the House Republican leadership will announce a set of "principles" for immigration reform.  Supposedly, if these "principles" are not well-received, the House will shelve the issue for the remainder of the year.

To be blunt:  The health of the Second Amendment relies on demolishing these "principles."

Immigration reform will add over 8,000,000 anti-gun voters to the voting rolls.  There may be as many as 11.5 million persons illegally in the United States.  And, a Pew poll from last year indicated that if illegal immigrants were given citizenship, they would vote for liberal, anti-gun candidates by an 8-to-1 margin.

This is exactly what happened to California -- which was once a Red State.  Because of the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty bill of 1986, the state lurched violently to the left and now can’t pass gun control restrictions fast enough.

If this were to happen at the national level, we would lose the ability to stop massive gun bans and gun registration schemes.  And all of this occurs at a time when a Fox poll shows the American people oppose Obama’s immigration policies by a margin of 36% to 54%.

The first reality is this:  If the House passes ANYTHING, the Senate will tack on its amnesty bill and send it to conference.  And the national conversation will turn off of ObamaCare and onto immigration.

And guess what?  Every gun-hating institution which moved heaven and earth to pass gun control will move heaven and earth to get the House to retreat -- if not to a "pathway to citizenship," to a "pathway to legalization."

They will have created the biggest and most motivated Obama-loving movement in the country -- devoted to electing anti-gun politicians and retaining Harry Reid's control of the Senate.

What will Republicans get, in exchange for creating an army of pro-Obama election warriors?

Very little.  (Be sure to read GOA legislative counsel Michael Hammond’s analysis, which shows, in great detail, how the Republican leadership’s “principles” will end up back-firing on gun owners.)

The bottom line is that there is a reason why Barack Obama and his "puppet press" have been campaigning for a year to force the Republican House to wade into "immigration reform."  It is nothing but benefits for anti-gun politicians, and nothing but pain for pro-gun legislators.

Who would be stupid enough to inflict that level of pain on themselves?

ACTION:   Contact your Representative.  If he is a Republican, the pre-written letter will ask him to reject the ridiculous "immigration principles" being hawked by the leadership -- principles that will eventually destroy the pro-gun movement in America.  The pre-written letter for Democrats is a generic opposition letter.

ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE:  Remember that clicking on the first “submit” button on the GOA Engage site (where you input your name and address), only submits your information so that your correct legislators can be identified.  Hence, the first “submit” button does not actually send your letter.  Instead, it brings you to the next page where you can actually review the pre-written letter.  The second “submit” button actually sends the letter.

Doubling-down on dumb: Homeland Security loses assault rifle in Redondo Beach, cops think it’s a bomb

FILE PHOTO: Redondo Beach Police Department cruiser. Photo credit Nicole Mooradian.

I’m not sure who looks dumber here.

Is it the fed who drove off without his  weapon, or is it the Redondo Beach Police, who are so unfamiliar with gun cases that they evacuated the area and needed the LASD bomb squad to tell them a rifle is a rifle?

An assault rifle that caused the evacuation of several homes in South Redondo Beach on Thursday morning belonged to a member of a federal law enforcement agency under the Homeland Security umbrella, according to a spokesman for the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Police evacuated multiple residences in the 400 block of North Broadway after a neighbor inadvertently brought home the government-issued assault rifle, said Sgt. Shawn Freeman.

5 Horrific Examples of Cultural Decay in America

Human beings are marvelously adaptive creatures, but that can sometimes work again us. That's because we tend to be so focused on adjusting to our present circumstances that we often forget to ask the bigger questions. How did we get to where we are now? Would we be in a stronger position today if we had made some better decisions upstream? What lessons from the past can we use in the future?
This is the case for individuals, but it's even more applicable to nations.

Many people tend to assume that all societal changes are for the better. Certainly, we should all be grateful that the Democrat Party finally joined the Republicans in opposing slavery, segregation and Jim Crow laws. It's also wonderful that the Democrats at long last agreed with Republicans that women should have the right to vote. It's also great that both parties worked to help Americans become more educated, end child labor and make our society more affluent.

That being said, while it's fine to celebrate all the progress we've made as a nation, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we're also inferior to previous generations of Americans in some crucial areas. Only by recognizing where we've fallen short can we take steps to try to get back what we've lost as a people -- and as you're about to see, culturally, we've lost a great deal.
1) "To get a sense of how different attitudes were in the 1960s, perhaps this will do it. These never-married women were asked, “In your opinion, do you think it is all right for a woman to have sexual relations before marriage with a man she knows she is going to marry?” …Eighty-six percent said no."

NC: Compliance inspections now for registration?

Via m21308

Just got back from my favorite "Fun" store. They had their ATF inspection last week. Notable in that the two ATF compliance tax agents were female. One black and one white. What is notable about that? It seems to me as if they hired a bunch of anti-gun non shooting sports types to work for them. Also notable is that they mentioned that North Carolina has been "given" 20 additional compliance teams. Also noteworthy (especially) is the NEW additional part of the inspection.
The black tax inspector spent the entire time photographing every single 4473. She even photographed all of the deferred or declined 4473s. Registration is here in North Carolina. If you own any firearms that you bought in a gun store on a 4473, you had better start trading them around. Fortunately I do not. Now I shall have to see if this was done at work since we had ours last month. Did not occur to me to inquire as that is not my department.

White House rejects review board finding that NSA data sweep is illegal

Via avordvet

The White House on Thursday disputed the findings of an independent review board that said the National Security Agency's mass data collection program is illegal and should be ended, indicating the administration would not be taking that advice.

"We simply disagree with the board's analysis on the legality of the program," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

He was responding to a scathing report from The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB), which said the program ran afoul of the law on several fronts.

"The ... bulk telephone records program lacks a viable legal foundation," the board's report said, adding that it raises "serious threats to privacy and civil liberties" and has "only limited value." The report, further, said the NSA should "purge" the files.

“Unless You Come Home We Must Die”

“The women of the South willingly gave for their cause the things that meant most to them.  They gave up their husbands and sons, not grudgingly, but with Spartan courage.  The following letter is a moving example of this patriotism.  A Clark County, Virginia, woman whose husband had been two years in Yankee prisons and in exile from his home, and whose son (an only child, in his eighteenth year) was then in some Northern Bastille as a prisoner of war, wrote to her husband:

“If it were possible, I should like you to be at home; but I do not want you or O. to give up the struggle for liberty and our rights . . . I would love to be with you; but do not expect it in these times.  I wish O. was at home – I mean in his company; but I would rather him be a prisoner for the war than have him home dodging his duty, as some do.  I am proud to think every man in my little family is in the army.  If I have but two, they are at their posts of duty.”

On the other hand some women with half-starving children so desperately needed their husbands that they urged them to desert.  An old schoolbook, Moore’s School History of North Carolina, contains a paragraph in illustration of this point which many a schoolboy (including the writer) remembered long after he forgot other dates and facts of his history lessons:

“My Dear Edward – I have always been proud of you, and since your connection with the Confederate army I have been prouder of you than ever before.  I would not have you do anything wrong for the world, but before God, Edward, unless you come home, we must die.

Last night I was aroused by little Eddie’s crying.  I called and said, “What’s the matter, Eddie?” And he said, “O mamma, I am so hungry.” And Lucy, Edward, your darling Lucy, she never complains but she is growing thinner and thinner every day. And before God, Edward, unless you come home we must die.  Y

--Your Mary”

Edward did desert – and this letter from his wife was given to the court as the only evidence he could offer when tried by courts martial for desertion. Although he voluntarily returned to his command after his family was provided for, the courts-martial found him guilty but recommended mercy.  So he remained in service and was last seen, pale and bloody, firing after the retreating Federals.  He fell dead at his post of battle.”

Ukrainian Catholic Church accuses government of Soviet-era repression

People walked into a makeshift chapel in Independence Square in Kiev, Ukraine, Dec. 9. The square has been the site of massive protests following Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich's announcement of the end of a process to bring Ukraine closer economica lly and legally to the European Union.

The Ukrainian Catholic Church has accused the government of Soviet-style repression after it was threatened with new restrictions for backing demonstrators protesting the country's withdrawal from a deal with the European Union.

"Our church has always been true and will remain so for the future mission that Christ the Savior entrusted, despite all the threats," said Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of Kiev-Halych, major archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.

"For the first time (since) Ukraine's independence, we are hearing threats that the church could be banned in a court action. ... We thought the time of repression had passed," he said.

Following John McCain’s recent trip to Kiev practicing his new brand of international racketeering by threatening the Ukraine if they did not join the EU, it seems that the real Ukrainians have finally figured out that the pro-EU mobs have been staged by a conclave of western NGO’s and ‘democracy foundations’ – the very same nest of hornets who brought on the fabled ‘Arab Spring’ to the Middle East three years ago.

The main goal for Washington and the City of London is to separate Kiev from Moscow, and thus weaken Russia’s hand in Eurasia.

For EU central bankers, the prospect of raping and privatising the Urkraine economy-  is also a big incentive.

It looks like the old tricks are no longer working. At last, the ‘colour revolution’ jig may finally be up…
