Is DHS Setting Up Local Law Enforcement For Failure?

Via NC Renegade

Yup.

The past several years the federal government has embarked on a strategy of militarizing the local law enforcement agencies around the country. They have provided the money and equipment to give these agencies the appearance of small military units that act in a manner far removed from the community service of days past. This has pushed many local departments away from the friendly approach they utilized in the past to serve the public interest.

I have seen it myself in the local department where I live. In a county with less than 20,000 people we now have a police force with almost 50 officers and the sheriff wants at least 100 more auxiliary police officers. What all of these police are for in this sparsely populated area has yet to be answered. The sheriff has also made it a point to hire deputies from outside the county to ensure there is no close connection between the police and the local community.

This is exactly what the federal government wants, to ensure the local police will not be in a position to side with locals if anything happens. It is in the governments' best interest to drive a wedge between the communities and law enforcement. The government is apparently designing a confrontation between citizens and the government and they are using local agencies to assist.

Is it a Sign of the Times or a sign from the NY Times? The NYT’s article Klan Protests in Memphis Over Renaming of Three Parks comes in the wake of a spate of accusations against extremists or ‘white supremacists’. It’s been a long time since it hogged the headlines but the “white supremacist” word is back in the news.

CBS News has broadly hinted that the murder of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland in Texas was connected with white supremacist groups. “Sources told CBS … that the DA was shot multiple times with what is believed to be an assault rifle … there were no signs of forced entry.”
The killings came less than two weeks after Colorado’s prison chief was gunned down at his front door by a white-supremacist ex-convict, and two months after Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was shot to death in a parking lot a block from his office Jan. 31. No arrests have been made in Hasse’s slaying. …
McLelland himself, in an Associated Press interview, raised the possibility that Hasse was gunned down by a white supremacist gang. McLelland, elected DA in 2010, said that Hasse hadn’t prosecuted any cases against white supremacists but that his office had handled several, and those gangs had a strong presence in the area.
Now comes news that McLelland was associated with the Tea Party, as shown in a campaign finance report form. Assault rifle, Tea Party,  suggested familiarity all confirm the darkest — or whitest — fears in the media.

Think Progress hints that a “white supremacist plot” may be behind the spate of killings.

Rep. Joe Mitchell absent from Alabama State House this session

Via Billy

X00165_9.JPG

State Rep. Joseph Mitchell, D-Mobile, has not voted in the Alabama Legislature since May 2012, and has not been seen by fellow lawmakers in Montgomery since the current session began on Feb. 5.

Mitchell is at the center of controversy because of a series of emails he sent to Eddie Maxwell of Bessemer beginning in late January, when he referred to Maxwell’s "slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed… kin folk."

Mitchell has declined to apologize for the comments, and according to House Speaker Mike Hubbard is not expected to face disciplinary action.

Mitchell’s last recorded vote was cast on May 16, 2012 - the final day of last year's regular session - when he voted against the fiscal 2012-13 budget bill.

Mitchell, 64, did not participate in a special session of the Legislature that convened from May 17-24, 2012, to address redistricting. Mitchell declined his pay and travel reimbursements for the special session, according to the House Clerk’s office.

Mitchell is being paid his salary - $55,826 per year – plus travel expenses for the current session, although there is no evidence he’s attended a single day.

Stockman Sees Fed-Fueled Bubble Bursting in Economic Chaos

 Crony Capitalism David Stockman

The U.S. economy is in a bubble inflated by “phony money” from the Federal Reserve and will burst within a few years, warned David Stockman, who was budget director for President Ronald Reagan.

In an essay published yesterday in the New York Times, Stockman wrote that the Fed’s quantitative easing policies in the aftermath of the credit crisis have flooded stock markets with cash even while the “Main Street economy” remains weak. The combination, he wrote, is “unsustainable.”

“When it bursts, there will be no new round of bailouts like the ones the banks got in 2008,” wrote Stockman, a former senior managing director at Blackstone Group LP and a former Republican congressman from Michigan. “Instead, America will descend into an era of zero-sum austerity and virulent political conflict, extinguishing even today’s feeble remnants of economic growth.”

Stockman, 66, is the author of “The Great Deformation: The Corruption of Capitalism in America,” which will be published tomorrow. In a previous book published after he resigned as budget director in 1985, Stockman criticized his former Reagan administration colleagues for failing to cut spending along with the supply-side tax cuts they enacted.

“We’re borrowing money and burying the future generations in debt,” he said in an interview today on Bloomberg Television.

Polygamy Will Follow Gay Marriage

Via Billy

Image: SBC's Land: Polygamy Will Follow Gay Marriage

With the Supreme Court set this week to hear two historic challenges to the traditional definition of marriage, pro-family advocates are charging that legalizing gay marriage would “inevitably” lead to the legalization of polygamy as well.

“No question about it,” Dr. Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, told Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview Monday afternoon.

“If you make the ultimate value a person’s right to express their sexuality with another person and to have that identified as marriage, then how do you keep polygamy from happening? “How do keep consensual adult siblings from getting married?” he added. “How do you keep a consensual father and adult daughter from getting married? Incest and polygamy will come right after it.

” Land’s conclusion: “You shatter the definition of marriage if you try to expand it to include same-sex marriage.”

Out-of-towners live large at free shelters

For out-of-towners seeking “four-star’’ accommodations here, there’s The Waldorf, The Pierre, The Plaza — and the city’s homeless shelters.

“People pay $3,000 for an apartment here, and I get to live here for free!” said Michal Jablonowski, 25, who moved back to the city from his native Poland three years ago and is now staying in a Bowery shelter.

“I have food. I have health care. It’s great,’’ Jablonowski said. “Here, the city supports you. The city helps you with everything.’’

City shelters boasting generous resources have increasingly become havens for out-of-towners, statistics show.

Nearly one in four of the city’s single homeless people who entered the system in December 2012 listed their last address as outside the city.

“We get breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have a microwave and TV. They do the laundry for free,” noted Jablonowski, who lived in New York for years before going back to his homeland, only to return here to a freebie life.

Jablonowski said he even gets a prepaid cellphone — allowing 1,000 texts and 300 minutes a month — through Medicaid and boasted, “I’m going to get my teeth fixed.”

“I love New York because you cannot starve in New York, you can always find food and clothes,” he said.

“The shelters are really nice. You have clean sheets. You get to watch TV and stay in the warm. Homeless people have it so good, they don’t want to look for a job.’’

DOD memo outlines authority for sale or destruction of expended cartridge brass

Via avordvet

Once these are fired off, what will happen to the brass?

In a follow-up to Friday’s report on two military installations destroying expended ammunition brass for scrap metal sales rather than making it available to the commercial reload market, the Fort McCoy public affairs office today sent Gun Rights Examiner a copy of a June 23, 2011 memorandum from Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter on “Department of Defense (DoD) Implementing Guidance for the Commercial Sale of Expended Small Arms Cartridge Cases (ESACC).”

“The attached guidance reconciles [the Ike Skelton National Defense Authorization Act] with other applicable provisions, including … the Department of Defense Appropriations Act … which restricted funds from being used to demilitarize or dispose of certain types of carbines, rifles, pistols, or small arms ammunition and ammunition components that are not otherwise prohibited from commercial sale under Federal law or certified by the Secretary of the Army … as unserviceable or unsafe for future use,” the memorandum explains.

“The DoD, over the past several years, made available for commercial sale to qualified buyers in the continental United States an estimated six to eight million pounds of intact (non-demilitarized) ESACC,” the memorandum continues, citing periodic quantity reviews “based on the average percentages … available for sale, Qualified Recycling Program Revenues, and sales customer input.

 Blithering, egotistical fool.

President Barack Obama, who has increased the national debt by $53,377 per household, has proclaimed April “National Financial Capability Month,” during which his administration will do things such as teach young people “how to budget responsibly."

“I call upon all Americans to observe this month with programs and activities to improve their understanding of financial principles and practices,” Obama said in an official proclamation released Friday.

“My Administration is dedicated to helping people make sound decisions in the marketplace,” he said.

"Together, we can prepare young people to tackle financial challenges--from learning how to budget responsibly to saving for college, starting a business, or opening a retirement account,” he said.

“My Administration continues to encourage responsibility at all levels of our financial system by cracking down on deceptive practices and ensuring that consumers are informed of their rights,” he said.

Obama's Episcopal Pastor Bashes 'Religious Right' During Easter Sermon

 http://images.politico.com/global/2013/01/16/130115_obama_luis_leon_ap_605.jpg

The “captains of the religious right are always calling us back,” the pastor of the church where the first family worshiped on Easter Sunday said in his sermon as the president sat in attendance.

According to a pool reporter who covered the service, the Rev. Luis Leon, an Episcopal priest at Saint John’s Church Lafayette Square, earlier in the sermon noted that people often want things to go back to the way they used to be, before "work got difficult and faith got confused, and life got more confusing.”

But, he added, just Jesus told Mary not to hold on to the past, "You cannot go back."

At that point, he added, "It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back ... for blacks to be back in the back of the bus ...for women to be back in the kitchen ... for immigrants to be back on their side of the border."

15 Year Old Wisconsin Conservative Meets Bullying From Teachers

 http://www.benjibacker.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/benji-tp-300x300.png

As a 15 year old, I never imagined my activism in politics would translate into controversy for me at school.

My name is Benji Backer and I attend a public high school in Appleton, Wisconsin. I have always supported the public school system and plan to do so for the rest of my lifeMany Americans who stand up for the public school system and the unions believe there is no attempt to sway opinion or that students with opposing beliefs are singled outUnfortunately, experiences I have had with harassment and bullying prove that wrong. This is a timeline of the most extreme cases of harassment and indoctrination I have had in the three different public schools I have attended over the last three years.

I am currently in my freshman year of high school and the incidents are happening more frequently and I believe are more severe.  As you can imagine, the ongoing pressure and bullying has been disturbing to me, my friends and my family.

Just before the 2010 Midterm election, I was on the front page of the local newspaper for my political volunteer work and my teachers noticed. One of my seven teachers made it very clear that she dissaproved of my civic engagement. In a period of two months, my Geography teacher frequently
would take me aside after school for a few minutes and tell me how stupid, wrong and misguided I was for being Republican. The harassment with this specific teacher got so bad, I had to switch schools halfway through the year.  At this time I was only 12 years old. To my knowledge, this teacher was not disciplined at all for her actions.

GOA to NRA Leadership:

Please Urge Senators to Support the Paul-Cruz-Lee Filibuster

We are going into a battle which will determine the future of gun control for the next decade - and perhaps for the rest of our lifetime.

Here's the status: On or around April 8, Harry Reid will move to proceed to S. 649. That "base bill" contains the Veterans Gun Ban, which could send you to prison for 15 years if you sell a gun to a veteran, without realizing he has PTSD. The bill will also contain the Schumer version of Universal Gun Registries.

S. 649 does not have the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster on final passage. However, if Reid can get the motion to proceed adopted - and get on the bill itself - he will play let's-make-a-deal and use bribes and kickbacks to buy the 60 votes he needs.

In particular, Reid and Schumer will probably try to prune the universal registry bill to buy off the vote of Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn. They may pretend to prohibit recordkeeping by the FBI, but you can bet their "compromise" will contain a big, juicy loophole.

In addition, they may pare it back to gun shows and internet sales, although the most recent "gun show" bill we have seen would effectively ban gun shows.

The media has been reporting that the NRA leadership is working with West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin to craft these compromises, although NRA vehemently denies it.

As a result of anti-gun rules changes, there are two ways to proceed to a bill in the Senate. One requires 60 votes, which we have. The second requires 50 votes (plus Biden), but requires Reid to give up some of his control of the floor.

The point is this: Our efforts will be tremendously helped if the NRA leadership publicly calls on Senators to oppose the motion to proceed, opposes cloture on the motion to proceed, and scores both votes.

If it does this, the motion to proceed will die. Reid will be unable to move to any gun control legislation. Gun control will die.

We believe that, because of the strength and fervor of our membership, we are very close to winning this battle - but it would be so much easier if we were both singing off the same page.

ACTION: If, you are an NRA member, contact them. Urge them to join with us in supporting the Paul-Cruz-Lee filibuster. That means they should tell Senators to oppose the motion to proceed to any gun control vehicle, and to oppose cloture on the motion to proceed to any gun control vehicle.

CONTACT: You can use the message below to direct your comments to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

April Fools’ Day Joke? Feds Seize 3-D Printed Gun Website

According to a notice posted on the Defense Distributed website, Homeland Security Investigations and the Justice Department have taken the site down.

“This domain name associated with the website DefenseDistributed.com or Defcad.org has been seized pursuant to an order issued by a U.S. District Court,” the home page of the website states.

The post claims a federal grand jury has indicted several individuals associated with the website and charged them with violating the Arms Control Act, the Undetectable Firearms Act, and other crimes.

Defense Distributed is on open source organization that designed the Wiki Weapon, a firearm that can be downloaded over the internet and printed with a 3-D printer. The project was co-founded by University of Texas law student Cody Wilson “and a group of like-minded friends with strong libertarian leanings – a mix of Ron Paul fans, hunting enthusiasts, and tech-savvy revolutionaries who see the availability of a “printable gun” as potentially upending power structures across the globe,” PCMag.com reported last August.
