"The Boy Colonel" Twenty-one year old Colonel Henry King Burgwyn,Jr. "

“Some wear the color of the sky in the winter
Some were as blue as the night
They came like a storm with the light of the morn
And they fell through the whole day and night
Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
As I watched them come over the hill
Then to my wonder, sticks that made thunder
Such a great number lay still” ~ Sticks That Made Thunder, The Steeldrivers
In late June of 1863, the 800 plus North Carolinians who made up the 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment began their long march from the vicinity of Fredricksburg, Virginia to near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The 26th NC was made up primarily of hardscrabble farm boys from Central and Western North Carolina. A great many of these men were under the age of 25. Among them were two of my ancestors.*
Records indicate the Colonel of the 26th, Harry Burgwyn Jr. was a slave owner.

3 Latest Indicators The Left Wants To Kill The First Amendment

Via David

The left is coming for the First Amendment. They claim that they’re all for freedoms of speech, association and religion. All of that is nonsense. The left believes that equality of feelings trumps Constitutional liberty; their agenda justifies quashing free speech, crushing freedom of association, and punishing freedom of religion.

Here are three of the latest indicators that the left hopes to destroy the First Amendment wholesale:

1. Stopping Citizens From Being Politically Involved.

Man of the people - Bernie Sanders chartered plane menu

It’s gotta be good to pay just 13.5% of your income to taxes while whining about wanting a 90% on those evil rich people. It’s even more ironic how the so called ‘man of the people’ Bernie Sanders dines on his chartered flights. Check out the menu for his flight from Rome back to New York.

A Climategate-like bombshell: State Attorney Generals colluded with Green groups to punish political opponents

Via David

Emails obtained by the Energy & Environment Legal Institute (E&E Legal) show that the offices of New York Democratic Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and those of other politically aligned AGs, secretly teamed up with anti-fossil fuel activists to launch investigations against groups whose political speech challenged the global warming policy agenda.

These emails, obtained under open records laws, shed light on what followed after a January meeting, reported by the Wall Street Journal on April 14, in which groups funded by anti-fossil fuel Rockefeller interests met to urge just this sort of investigation and litigation against political opponents.

Recently, after the think tank the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) criticized the AGs’ intimidation campaign, U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Claude Earl Walker — one of the AGs  working with Schneiderman — subpoenaed ten years of the non-profit organization’s records relating to climate change.

The latest email release strongly suggests a financial incentive for AGs to pursue their political opponents, rather than merely silencing and scaring away support for those who dare disagree with their extreme global warming agenda.

England: Man jailed for five years after plumbers found his Russian military pistol and silencer on top of his broken boiler

Via KY-Mike

An unemployed man has been jailed after plumbers who were called to fix his central heating found a semi-automatic Russian military pistol and silencer hidden on his broken boiler.

David Cooper, 51, called out the workmen in Luton after his boiler failed, leaving him with no hot water or heating - and they found the Baikal handgun, known a Makarov pistol, in a bag.

The pair told Cooper that they had to pop out to get a part for the boiler - and promptly phoned 999, before his home was raided by armed officers from Bedfordshire Police the next day.

Police discovered the pistol - the standard military and police firearm used in Russia during the Cold War - and silencer on top of the boiler, and found his fingerprints on both of them.

Cooper pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence following the discovery by the workmen on March 7 - and he was jailed for five years at Luton Crown Court on April 12.

Texas sues to block resettlement of Syrian refugees

On Tuesday, the Tennessee General Assembly declared it will sue the federal government over its refugee resettlement program on Tenth Amendment grounds. The State Senate passed a resolution authorizing that lawsuit in a 29 to 4 vote one day after it passed the Tennessee House by a 69 to 25 margin.

“Today we struck a blow for Liberty by finally adopting SJR467,” State Senator Mark Norris (R-Collierville), the co-sponsor of the resolution who shepherded it through the State Senate, tells Breitbart News.

House Introduces Resolution to Investigate Obama Admin for High Crimes & Misdemeanors

Via Billy

Well, that took long enough! Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah has less than a year left in office and the Republican-led House, which has been led by Republicans since their victory in 2010, is finally getting around to a resolution to establish a Select Committee on High Crimes and Misdemeanors within the Executive Branch and the Obama Administration.

HRes693 IH was introduced into the House of Representatives by Rep. Tom Yoho (R-FL) on Tuesday. The resolution would establish a "permanent Select Committee on Executive Oversight."

"Every day a new claim and allegation come to light about the abuses of the Obama Administration," said Yoho. "Blatant Executive overreach, targeting by enforcement agencies, stand down orders of enforcement on existing law—which have resulted in the deaths of Americans, and regulatory agencies that bypass Congress and write their own laws. Enough is enough. While this committee will be tasked with the oversight over future administrations—both Republican and Democrat—the abuses of the current Administration have necessitated the creation of a whole new committee to deal solely with this Administration's transgressions."

Tubman replacing Jackson on the $20, Hamilton spared

Via Iver

Harriet Tubman will bump Andrew Jackson from the front of the $20 bill while Alexander Hamilton will stay put on the $10 — a historic move that gives a woman prime placement on U.S. currency and quells a controversy kicked up by Hamilton super-fans.

“Today, I’m excited to announce that for the first time in more than a century, the front of our currency will feature the portrait of a woman, Harriet Tubman, on the $20 note,” Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told reporters during a conference call Wednesday afternoon.

Officer In D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Pointed Unloaded Gun At Head Of Another Officer And Dry Fired The Gun On Orders From His Sergeant

An officer in the Metropolitan Police Department’s first district “dry-fired” an unloaded weapon at the head of another officer during a roll-call meeting on Saturday afternoon, possibly under orders from a sergeant as part of a training exercise, four MPD sources tell WUSA9.

Those sources say a Sergeant later told officers in the room that they had secretly ordered the officer to unload his weapon and then pretend to fire on his colleague as part of a “training exercise” on situational awareness. The officer then pulled the trigger of the unloaded weapon while pointing it at the head of an officer until it audibly clicked, the sources say.

Both the officer who allegedly fired the weapon and the sergeant who allegedly ordered him are assigned to regular duties, pending an internal affairs investigation, MPD spokesman Sean Hickman tells WUSA9.

“I can tell you there are about seven different versions of the incident that are out there,” MPD Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters on Monday. “I’m not sure which or how many of those that you’ve heard, but I prefer to wait until I see some facts and some direct statements of what happened before I make a judgment.”
