Pregnant mom drives minivan full of kids into ocean

It’s billed as “The World’s Most Famous Beach,” but Daytona Beach came close to becoming a deadly scene Tuesday evening when a pregnant mother drove her minivan packed with three children into the ocean, prompting lifeguards and bystanders to spring to their rescue.

“This is one of those areas on the beach where you can drive your car on the beach,” said Steve Barrett, a reporter for WFTV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Central Florida. Visitors have been driving their vehicles on the local sand since the middle part of the last century.

Issa, Democrats Clash at IRS Hearing After Lerner Pleads Fifth

Former IRS official Lois Lerner's refusal to answer questions at a congressional hearing on the targeting of tea party groups sparked an angry exchange on Wednesday between Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa and committee Democrats.

Lerner headed the IRS division that improperly targeted tea party and other conservative groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status from 2010 to 2012. She appeared at a Wednesday hearing by the House Oversight Committee.

But when Issa asked her questions about her role in the matter, Lerner repeatedly invoked her constitutional right not to incriminate herself.

The fireworks began after a frustrated Issa abruptly adjourned the hearing, prompting an outburst by Maryland Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings.

Estonian foreign minister, in leaked phone call, raises suspicions about Ukraine's new government and sniper killings

Via Terry

A leaked conversation between Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton relays explosive suspicions that the same snipers are responsible for the Feb. 18-20 killings of both EuroMaidan demonstrators and police officers.

Paet goes further by raising the possibility that the gunmen may have been working for supporters of Ukraine’s new interim government, not ousted President Viktor Yanukovych, and that Ukraine’s current rulers are not interested in fully investigating who is behind the killings of some 90 people in the three-day period.

Paet also says that civil society leaders of EuroMaidan Revolution distrust the new Ukrainian government because they are tainted by corruption and have “a dirty past.”

He relays suspicions of coalition government involvement in the sniper killings after a conversation he had with Dr. Olga Bohomolets, a physician who attended to dead and wounded EuroMaidan protesters and who recently refused a ministerial appointment in the new government.

“What was disturbing is that the same snipers ...killed people on both sides. She (Bohomolets) showed me some photos. She said that as a medical doctor she could tell it was the same handwriting, the same type of bullets and it's really disturbing that now the new coalition, they don't want to investigate what exactly happened,” Paet tells Ashton. “There is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind snipers it was not Yanukovych. It was somebody from the new coalition.”

Maryland considers confiscating guns from 110k residents

Via LH

 Reuters / Sukree Sukplang

Seems just fine with me as we know for sure this would never be abused.........

More than 100,000 individuals in Maryland could become disqualified from owning their registered gun under a bill currently under consideration by state lawmakers.

According to the Associated Press, the Maryland House of Delegates is debating a proposal that would link the state’s gun and criminal registries, enabling law enforcement officials to more effectively seize firearms in the possession of those convicted of felonies or violent crimes.

Under Maryland law, anyone convicted of such crimes is required to relinquish their firearms. However, the chief sponsor of the proposed bill, Delegate Luiz Simmons (D-Montgomery Couny), said the law is incapable of truly being enforced if police cannot use their database to pinpoint the individuals in question.

Anti-Gun Doctor Poised for Confirmation as Surgeon General

On Thursday, the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pension(acronym: HELP!) Committee approved the nomination of anti-gun doctor Vivek Murthy to be Surgeon General of the United States.

Like most of Obama's nominees, Murthy's primary "credential" is his rabid support for Barack Obama during the presidential election. As such, the office of Surgeon General -- once an honor given to physicians who have distinguished themselves in their field -- has now become nothing more than electoral "payback" to a political hack.

And make no mistake about it: Murthy gives the term "hack" a bad name.

Head of Doctors for Obama, Murthy dutifully changed the name to "Doctors for America" just as other Obama house organs were making similar changes. After the shooting in Newtown, Murthy’s group authored an open letter to Obama that urged restrictions on gun rights in the name of the medical profession, stating:

It’s time for common sense gun rules like background checks and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as a comprehensive plan to address gun violence including ensuring funding for research and data-collection on gun violence and ensuring that health care providers can ask patients about gun ownership in order to counsel them appropriately about safety measures.”

This would put Murthy to the Left of Obama's public position on gun control.

Murthy's internet communications reflect a similar hatred for the Second Amendment. The Twitter feed of @vivek_murthy reads, in part:

1. Vivek Murthy @vivek_murthy Apr 21
"Signs of progress-we got 20 votes in the senate in favor of gun violence legislation that we wouldn’t have had 1 year ago. Have faith #dr4a"

2. Vivek Murthy @vivek_murthy Apr 21 "Docs fired up to keep fighting for gun safety laws @Drsforamerica natl conference with @haroldpollack Brina Milikowsky, Eric Fleegler #dr4a"

3. Vivek Murthy @vivek_murthy 21 Dec 2012
"NRA press conference disappointing but predictable - blame everything in the world except guns for the Newtown tragedy. #wakeup"

If Murthy, as a mere Obama lapdog, was bent on threatening the Second Amendment, imagine what he would do with his hands in control of federal "health" research funds. We already know that President Obama would like to unleash taxpayer dollars in order to produce junk science supporting gun control.

The fight to defeat Murthy's nomination is made harder by the fact that anti-gun Senators like Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mark Warner (D-VA), Mark Udall (D-CO), Mark Begich (D-AK) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) have voted to change the Senate rules so that Murthy can be confirmed by 50, rather than 60 votes.
But we are not going to allow the confirmation of this anti-gun crazy without a fight. And Gun Owners of America will score a vote in favor of Murthy as an anti-gun vote.

ACTION Contact your two Senators and urge them to OPPOSE the Vivek Murthy nomination and forward this email to your friends and family.

Killed for shooting a robot

Should police be able to kill a man for shooting at a police robot?

Sherry Booth thought she had a good, if nosy neighbor, in the man who lived in the other side of her Grays Hill Court duplex. Then her daughter called her a little after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“She was scared to death,” Booth said. “The police (sic) was banging on the door. Told her to hurry up and get out because he had a gun.”

Kentucky State Police said a man met Shelbyville Police at his front door with a long gun when they tried to serve him a warrant for assault and menacing. Thursday, Shelby County Deputy Coroner Ittin Russell identified the man as Del Aukerman.

His Facebook page makes clear his fondness for exotic firearms, motorcycles and military memorabilia.

“The subject barricaded himself inside his residence and refused to cooperate with negotiators,” said Trooper Kendra Wilson, public information officer for KSP’s Frankfort post.

Lois Lerner fears for her life if she testifies at Wednesday’s oversight hearing

Lois Lerner fears for her life if she testifies openly before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Wednesday, according to her attorney.

House oversight committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa announced Sunday that Lerner will testify at Wednesday’s hearing, but Lerner’s attorney Bill Taylor said that Lerner will seek to continue invoking her Fifth Amendment rights and will also seek a one-week delay of her testimony.

Oversight members are reportedly open to granting Lerner a one-week delay if she petitions for one in person at Wednesday’s hearing. The delay would allow Lerner’s lawyers to continue negotiating for immunity, which they have been doing since at least September.

Anybody in world willing to pay a fine can get U.S. work permit under Boehner's new definition of amnesty

Via Mike

When House Speaker Boehner defined amnesty to the Cincinnati Enquirer on Monday, he made it clear that he is a whole-hearted advocate of amnesty.

We at NumbersUSA have been suggesting for a few years now that Boehner is fully committed to rewarding not only millions of illegal aliens but also the businesses who broke the law to entice them here.  Now, with the release of his "principles" in January and his statement this week, he has fully confirmed our warning.

Here's what the Enquirer wrote about its interview with the Speaker:
Boehner fired back at some conservatives who have likened the GOP principles to amnesty. The GOP leadership’s outline called for granting legal status – but not citizenship – to many immigrants who are currently living in the U.S. illegally under certain conditions. Those include admitting their immigration violation, passing background checks, paying fines and back taxes.
“Some want to call it amnesty,” Boehner said. “I reject that premise ... If you come in and plead guilty and pay a fine, that’s not amnesty.”
Only people who are absolutely committed to another mass amnesty talk like that.

0-dark-thirty

 CT SWAT

I thought I posted this a few days before, but found it as a draft.

Friday, June 27th, 2014, 0-dark-thirty:  The politicians have made their decision. By a twist of fate–your file simply happened to be on the top of the stack for no particular reason–you’ll be the first example. A state police SWAT team pull to the curb in front of your home, leap from their van and rush to your front door. Two black-clad men pull back a ram and swing it toward your front door, aiming just above the knob, while the rest of the team waits anxiously, their automatic weapons charged and off safe. Two hope they’ll get the opportunity to shoot. At least one wants to manufacture the opportunity.

You’ve made two major mistakes; they will cost your life and destroy your family:  you live in a blue state where the governor and legislature have no respect for the Constitution and the lives and liberty of citizens, and you were foolish enough to obey the law.

Starting awake from a sound sleep by the explosion of your door being smashed open and the heavy stomping of booted feet, you stumble down the stairs and into the hallway.

NC: Wake school board asks lawmakers to eliminate teacher tenure

Via NC Renegade

Wake school board meeting

The best news I've heard in a long while.

Leaders of the state's largest school system unanimously voted Tuesday evening on a three-page resolution asking North Carolina lawmakers to repeal legislation that eliminates tenure for public school teachers in return for offering a limited number of teacher pay raises.

The vote was met with a standing ovation from those who packed into the school board meeting room.

The pay provision, included in the state budget last July, is aimed at rewarding teachers based on their performance instead of having a tenure system that authors of the law say "fosters mediocrity and discourages excellence."

Senator Larry Martin was responsible for heading the effort to kill the legislative efforts in support of open carry in South Carolina.  During this effort, he said the following.
“If the 2nd amendment has been as you interpret it, why hasn’t SC law reflected that for the last 140 years? I’m sorry but you are describing an ‘unlimited’ right that has never been the case with the 2nd Amendment. My view of the 2nd Amendment has always been the right to own guns and keep them in our homes, business, and property and not to wear a gun whenever to wherever I pleased.”
Take careful note what Martin is saying.  Rather than just speaking to the issue of open carry, he is expanding his objection to carrying at all in public places.  This places him squarely in the same camp as politicians in New York, California and New Jersey.

Almost all of the judicial committee is to blame according to this commenter.
